Written by. Everyone loves it. As for medical books that are simple and convenient, they are indeed the path for doctors to enter the field. It is a pity that there are no prescriptions that can universally apply to various diseases. Why not further elucidate them? In this way, people can all reach the state of benevolence and longevity, and the benefits will be infinite. I say: Yes. Since Zhang Zhongjing, Liu Wansu, Li Dongyuan, Zhu Danxi, Dai Yuanli, and Wang Haogu, those who wrote books have been numerous, each holding their own views and arguments, with no unified standard. Alas! To test people's lives on others' words is dangerous. Therefore, I felt deep pain in my heart and regarded this as my duty. Later, I explored the treatments of ancient sages, integrated the profound mysteries, extracted the essentials, compiled them into a volume, and named it "Yue Shuo" (Brief Explanations). The language is concise and returns to the origin, and although the explanations are rough, the direction is very correct. This is certainly following in the footsteps of predecessors, occasionally attaching my own ideas, which are all personally tested by me and mostly effective. One can treat diseases according to these prescriptions. Like-minded scholars may find them useful. I await the day when I can report this, so that the principles share the same source, hoping not to fail the trust placed in me by my high ancestor to establish education and manage the lives of others. This is the preface. Written by Bao Shuding in the third month of Ding Si year, the 36th year of Jiajing.
[Chen Shi Xian's Experience Benefiting the World Good Prescriptions] Yi Cang Mu Lu (Catalogue of Medical Treasures) Volume 11 (Guo Shi Jing Ji Zhi records 10 volumes. Yi Cang Mu Lu repeats Experience Good Prescriptions Volume 4.) Extant.
The Summary of the Siku Quanshu states: Experience Benefiting the World Good Prescriptions, 11 volumes, compiled by Chen Shixian of the Ming Dynasty. Chen Shixian, courtesy name Bangxian, was from Fuqing. He passed the imperial examination in the Ren Xu year of Jiajing and served as Vice Censor-in-Chief. His book begins with Medical Principles, Pulse Diagnosis, and Drug Properties, forming a separate volume. Next are sections on general treatments for various diseases, such as Taiyi Zijin Pill and Niuhuang Qingxin Wan. Then it divides into 52 categories of miscellaneous diseases, all copying old prescriptions without commentary. The author's preface states that it was finalized with Sun Yu, a medical official from Tongzhou.

The Summary of the Siku Quanshu states: Water-Avoiding Collection of Verified Prescriptions, 4 volumes, written by Dong Bing of the Ming Dynasty. Dong Bing, courtesy name Wenhua, was from Sizhou. This compilation classifies commonly used and verified prescriptions without elaboration. Among the drugs used, Centella asiatica is mentioned, which is not detailed in Ben Cao. A drawing and efficacy description are provided specifically for it. However, there are many types of drugs; the key lies in skilled use, not in collecting novel or strange items to boast about secret transmissions. The title "Water-Avoiding" likely refers to the fact that during the Bing Yin year of Longqing, the Huai River breached its banks, and Dong Bing took refuge on an upper floor, completing the book while there. At the end, there is a biography of Uncle Yuhe written by Liu Yingzheng, detailing the medical practices of Dong Bing's father, Dong Xiang. Yuhe was Dong Xiang's pseudonym, so Dong Bing also adopted the pseudonym Huaiche.

[Wang Junsang's Convenient Medicine] Volume 2 (Zhang Shoukong edition Volume 4) Extant.
Author's Preface: I traveled to the capital and obtained this collection. Its prescriptions are concise and effective upon testing. I added subsequent entries and revised them. I prepared medicinal materials, and regardless of disease duration, following the dosage yielded miraculous results. Later, I served in Shanxi and again in Guan-Shaanxi. My attendants numbered in the tens. Over time, gathering firewood became difficult. Although regulations in relay stations were strict, preventing outside doctors from entering, I relied on this collection to help. Doctors were not troubled, and medicines were sufficient. Prescriptions were not complex but covered uses. I named it Convenient Medicine. After finishing duties, I wanted to share it with my attendants who requested it earnestly, but lacked funds for printing. The governor suggested using existing waste plates to print it. Double Ninth Day, Ji Si year of Longqing, inspected by Wang Jun, Censor Patrol of Shaanxi.
According to the Preface by Wu Xiu in Ren Yin year of Wanli: Recorded by Shen Zhuting and Yu Ling of Zhenze. Suzhou Prefecture Gazetteer says: Shen Yu Ling, pseudonym Zhuting, was from Wujiang. He was skilled in medicine, determining life and death. His book circulated. However, Xu Yingdeng's preface states this was compiled by Censor Wang while inspecting Qin, indicating it originated from Junshang.
[Wu Xiu's Supplement to Convenient Medicine Continuation] Volume 4 (Zhang Shoukong edition Volume 6) Extant.
Author's Preface (Summary): My family used the Convenient Medicine Collection, obtained from Mr. Zhuting. Thirty years have passed, and requests still come. Wulin printed two editions, claiming they were imperial versions. Later, an edition from Juzhong appeared, with supplements by Zhu Jichuan and Huang Wenzhou. Both were good doctors, and their collections were reliable. I combined and edited the two books, adding my own tested prescriptions to continue the previous edition. For those unable to obtain medicine or giving it to incompetent doctors, reading this may bring relief.
[Cao Jin's Reliable and Easy Prescriptions] Volume 8 Extant.
Li Yonglu's Preface (Summary): Vice Minister Cao of Yimeng paid attention to the Inner Canon and Ling Shu, and was profound in the classic formulas of Zhang Zhongjing, Hua Tuo, and Zhu Danxi. Since entering officialdom, he traveled through Huaiyang, Qilu, and Kuaiji. Visiting scenic spots, he met Daoist priests and monks, asking for rare single prescriptions and recording them. Over twenty years, his bags filled with thousands of prescriptions. Now having free time, he organized them, classified them by syndrome, removed duplicates and absurd ones, resulting in eight volumes. Similar syndromes are noted within sections, and varied prescriptions are annotated. This is more precise and simple than others. Tested frequently with miraculous results, titled Reliable and Easy Prescriptions. Opening the scroll, categories are distinct, drugs are not confused, and treatment methods are complete. Even in remote villages, people can check prescriptions by syndrome, make drugs, and treat without leaving home, seeing immediate effects. No need to seek other doctors.
Author's Preface (Summary): I heard, "A foot has its shortcomings, an inch has its strengths." Truly said. I suffered from spleen disease in my youth. Calling famous healers, only one in a hundred succeeded. A guest gave me Concha Tridacnitis (Lishi), without diagnosis. After a month or two, my appetite doubled. Thus, sea-side prescriptions for severe diseases are true. I recovered and traveled. Meeting monks and priests, I asked for easy prescriptions, accumulating boxes over years. Treating main diseases, they worked well. In the first year of Longqing, I led an envoy to Yishui, ordering Medical Officer Zheng Luan to collect and classify. "Good prescriptions! Transmitted from sea people, scattered in experts' records." I clarified sources but found them complex. Two years later, I brought them to Qin. Medical Scholar Wang Ding of Jingyang edited and reduced them to eight volumes. Completed just as Vice Minister Li Jianzhai of Shangdang, who had broad benevolent intentions, viewed them and said: "Things have rules. Using a compass to seek circles, if not circular, it is not a square. Using a square to seek squares, if not square, it is not a circle. Reading your prescriptions, they seem like medical rules, not for profit. How does this benefit people's longevity?" I said: "Your intention is truly great and fortunate, aligning with my will." Thus, it was printed and named Reliable and Easy Prescriptions. Ancient texts include Health Preservation, Thousand Gold, Saving People, Emergency, and Easy Prescriptions. This prescription does not kill living things, uses locally suitable items, avoids complex processing, and has many tested miracles. Written by Cao Jin, Right Administrator of Shaanxi, on the Lantern Festival, first month of spring, Geng Wu year of Longqing.

[Yang Gong's Summary of Medical Prescriptions] Volume 12 Extant.
[Gong Xin's Mirror of Ancient and Modern Medicine] Volume 8 Extant.
Author's Preface: I studied Confucianism in youth. Reading Zhang Zai's Western Inscription, I saw that the weak, disabled, and orphaned are my brothers. Han Yu's Original Way advocates medicine to prevent premature death. I deeply admired their spirit of treating all people as kin and all things as companions. However, only chancellors can assist the emperor in balancing yin and yang and regulating vital qi to save the nation's pulse. I wished to see this personally but felt inadequate. My father started in medicine, coming to Yan-Yu and responding to the Central Plains. I learned the orthodox transmission of medicine, inheriting the heart-mind transmission of Qi Bo, Huang Di, Cang Er, and Yue Rui, and elucidating the secrets of Liu, Zhang, Zhu, and Li. I sincerely visited wandering high scholars who aided medical teaching, discussing with them. Respecting ancient sages and modern masters, I exhausted my spirit, refining my knowledge for years. Examining diseases, I first checked pulses, then identified causes, and adjusted treatments and prescriptions accordingly. Results were consistent. Later, I categorized pulse-disease-treatment formulas, using ancient and modern confirmed theories as keys, occasionally adding my own views, cross-referencing, supplementing omissions, and detailing brevities. Compiled into eight volumes, covering the thirteen medical departments roughly. Named Mirror of Ancient and Modern Medicine. Medicine requires insight; why a mirror? Only an empty mirror reflects completely; only clear medicine misses no disease. This book checks ancient verified cases and modern verified cases, illuminating hidden chronic illnesses like a mirror reflecting beauty and ugliness without bias. Hence, Medical Mirror. This is my naming intent. Draft completed, I dared not keep it secret, so I had it printed for the world. May it help doctors slightly and rescue patients. Though different from governing a state, it can revive the weak and save the premature, echoing Han Yu and Zhang Zai's intentions. I am humble and unskilled in writing, briefly describing the book's creation here. Correcting errors remains for future scholars. Written by Gong Tingxian, junior scholar from Jinxi, at Youshen Hall, auspicious day of the first winter month, Bing Zi year, 4th year of Wanli.
Jinxi County Gazetteer states: Gong Xin was from Xiadu Lisili. He served in the Imperial Hospital. He authored Mirror of Ancient and Modern Medicine and Yunlin Medical Bow. His son Tingxian authored Reviving Ten Thousand Diseases.
[Zhou Li's Ladder to the Medical Sage] Volume 10 Extant.
