The "General Rules" state: The disease of cold damage was originally named *Zhubing Lun* (Treatise on Sudden Diseases). In the main text of its old and new printed editions, there are instances where one character has been added, one character omitted, function words differ in usage, sentence punctuation varies, a single section is divided into two or three sections, and repetitions occur without being treated as superfluous characters. All these have now been carefully and accurately corrected; this current edition should be regarded as the definitive version. Books intended to last for generations ought to be standardized, just as the *Four Books* and *Five Classics* allow not even a single character to differ.
