To treat chest fullness and pain caused by the knotting of phlegm and Qi, this method is superior to formulas such as Xianxiong Decoction (Cave-Chest Decoction) and Xiexin Decoction (Drain-Heart Decoction), regardless of whether the patient presents with Yin or Yang patterns, or deficiency or excess conditions.
Take 5 qian of Yinzhu (Realgar and Cinnabar mixture, specifically processed red mercury sulfide) and 1 liang of Mingfan (Alumen, Alum). Grind them together thoroughly. Place a charcoal fire in an ironing iron (ti dou). Put the medicine in a clay vessel to melt it. Scrape down the molten medicine immediately and roll it into pills. Take 1 qian per dose, administered with fine tea leaves and a few drops of ginger juice. After ingestion, if a faint sound is heard in the heart region, the chest knot will naturally dissipate. This method does not damage the Zang-Fu organs nor injure the True Qi. This is because Mingfan resolves phlegm, and Yinzhu breaks up accumulations.
(For symptoms) causing facial and ocular edema, and insomnia throughout the night.
Take Ge Fen (Margarita Shell Powder) with a small amount of Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis). Mix with light salt water and add a few drops of sesame oil. Administer 3 qian orally.
Geng Sheng's Note: This resembles the ancient formula Gelisan (Clam-Li Powder). However, improper administration often induces vomiting, making the medicine difficult to swallow. It is more convenient to use Gelisan. The prescription for Gelisan involves taking 3 to 4 liang of shellfish shells (Gelishell), washing them clean, and roasting them over charcoal fire. Do not over-roast; stop when the shells emit an odor and crackle/pop. Remove them and place on the ground to eliminate "fire toxicity." Grind into a fine powder and store. For conditions involving panting and coughing due to phlegm-fire, take 1 liang divided into three doses. Eat a light dinner. First, mix the powder with thin rice paste, shape into pills the size of soybeans. Swallow two or three pills at a time with boiling water, rolling/swallowing continuously without letting the pills dry out. As soon as the medicine is swallowed, the phlegm descends.
To treat poisoning from insects, gu poison, and various toxins, and to resolve all kinds of drug poisonings.
Take 5 qian of Dashandougen (Dawsonia Root), 1 liang of Xionghuang (Realgar), 1 liang of Zhusha (Cinnabaris, ground fine), 2.5 qian each of Huangyaozi (Dioscorea bulbifera Tuber), Huandan (Lithargyrum), Shexiang (Moschus/Musk), Banmao (Mylabris/Blister Beetle, heads and feet removed), 0.5 sheng of Nuomi (Oryzae Semen/Glutinous Rice, fried yellow), 2.5 qian of Chuan Badou (Crotonis Fructus/Sichuan Croton Seed, fleshy part of plump seeds, oil retained), 2.5 qian of Xuisui Zi (Euphorbiae Lathyridii Fructus/Euphorbia seed, raw pounded to powder), and 2 Chi Wugong (Scolopendra/Red Centipede, one raw, one roasted).
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder in a mortar and mix evenly. Use glutinous rice soup to bind the powder into pills the size of longan seeds. Dry in the shade and store in porcelain bottles. Take one pill per dose, swallowed with fine tea. Do not chew. Within a short time, the toxic substances will be expelled.
To treat depression, vexation, injuries caused by the Seven Emotions, loss of appetite, sallow complexion, emaciation, and various disorders of the chest and diaphragm.
Take 2 jin of Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, fried in a clay vessel until yellow, take 1 jin of pure powder) and 4 liang of Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, skin removed).
Grind into a fine powder. Bind with honey into pills the size of quail eggs. Take one pill per dose, chew thoroughly while fasting, and wash down with plain boiled water or Jiangqi Decoction (Descending-Qi Decoction).
Appendix: Jiangqi Tang Formula: 5 qian of Xiangfu (prepared as above), added with 2 liang of Fushen and 1.5 liang of Zhi Gancao (Prepared Licorice Root). Grind into powder and administer by steeping in boiling water to assist the previous medication.
Geng Sheng's Note: This formula appears in *Yishu Huican* (Compendium of Medical Books). In this version, 1 jin of Xiangfu is soaked in running water for three days, the hairs are wiped off, and it is stir-fried separately four times using ginger juice, child's urine, aged wine, and rice vinegar, then dried. Add 4 liang of Fushen, grind into fine powder, mix evenly, and bind with honey into pills the size of quail eggs. Xiangfu must not come into contact with iron utensils. Both the dosage ratio and processing methods of these two prescriptions are excellent, and they are superior to the former formula.
