Dig a basin-shaped pit in the ground, six to seven cun deep, just large enough to accommodate the feet. Heat charcoal until red-hot, then spray strong vinegar over it. Spread clean scallions (with skins and roots intact) evenly across the bottom.
To treat persistent rheumatic pain in the feet.
Use an unlimited amount of *Vitex negundo* leaves (Jing Ye), place them in a large urn, and heat from below. Have the patient place their feet among the leaves; sweating should occur shortly. During the steaming process, eat small amounts as needed, and stop when slightly fatigued.
Zhongnan's Method
Four taels of fresh ginger, decocted into a strong bath solution, will cure the condition immediately.
Fengyan Cao (Phoenix Eye Herb), which refers to the clustered pods growing on the Toon tree (*Toona sinensis*). Burn these pods into charcoal, leach with water to extract the juice, and use it to wash the hair. After one year of use, the eyes will become clear like those of a child. Adding charcoal made from Toon bark is even better.
In the past, Song Zhongfu of Wusheng Army suffered from this condition for twenty years. Using this method for two years restored his vision completely.
Fresh green mulberry leaves are finely ground and dried by baking. They are processed monthly according to the days, burned in situ to retain their medicinal properties (Cun Xing). Take one he (a traditional unit of volume) per dose, decoct in a porcelain vessel until reduced by two parts, pour out the clear liquid, and wash with the warm solution.
Wash the affected area with dozens of snails; it will be cured after two treatments. Three bowls of water are sufficient to decoct thirty snails.
When swelling occurs, use equal parts of *Pueraria lobata* root (Zi Ge), *Polygonum aviculare* (Tian Qiao Mai), *Lonicera japonica* stem (Ren Dong Teng), and *Carex* species (Jin Si Cao), decoct in water, and wash. When ulceration occurs, use Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi), Licorice root (Gan Cao), Notopterygium root (Qiang Huo), and Scutellaria root (Huang Qin), and expose/wash [text implies application or washing].
Equal parts of Phellodendron bark (Huang Bo) and Mirabilite (Pi Xiao) are ground into fine powder. For already ulcerated lesions, use seven parts Huang Bo and three parts Pi Xiao; for non-ulcerated red and swollen lesions, use half and half; for early-stage lesions, use seven parts Pi Xiao and three parts Huang Bo.
This [method/formula]
To treat severe wind disease (Leprosy/Ma Feng) that has persisted for years without healing, characterized by loss of facial hair and collapse/destruction of the nasal bridge, taking effect miraculously.
Decoct branches of Willow, Peach, Mulberry, Locust, and Catalpa trees in strong concentration. Sit in a large vat immersed up to the neck. After one day, when an oily film appears on the surface of the broth, exit the bath and rest comfortably.
To treat smallpox pustules that have collapsed after several days, with stagnant pus, or blocked by wind-cold.
Use five jin of Water Poplar branches and leaves (use branches if no leaves are available) and a large cauldron of flowing water. Decoct to make a warm bath. Add hot broth if it cools down. After a while, observe the pustules rising with distinct halos (indicating recovery); utilize the warm steam for bathing.
Four liang of Mugwort wool (Ai Rong), shaped to match the size of the lesion, mixed with four liang of Sichuan Peppercorn (Chuan Jiao). Wrap in coarse straw paper and place over the accumulation/mass. Moxibustion/ironing is performed using a hot water pot; the presence of crackling sounds indicates dissipation of the accumulation.
