Chongwang. The liver blood and kidney essence are damaged, resulting in a lack of power to function within the Eight Extraordinary Vessels (Qi Jing Ba Mai). This is a disease between the sinews and bones, internally corresponding to the damage of essence and blood.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 qian), Lu Rong (Cervus Nippon Antler Glue/Deer Antler) (2 qian), Qi Zi (Lycium Fruit) (stir-fried black, 3 qian), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (1 qian), Bo Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit) (stir-fried black, 1 qian), Zi Yi Hu Tao Rou (Walnut Kernel with purple skin) (2 pieces), Sheng Xiong Yang Nei Shen (Raw Male Sheep Kidney) (2 pieces).
Essence and blood are tangible substances. Using plants, which are lifeless things, for tonification will surely not resonate in sound and qi. Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Fu Zi (Aconite Lateral Root) are rigid and obstinate; their temperament is vigorous and fierce. The organs governing essence and blood belong to Yin. Rigidity will further deplete body fat. As for Dan Xi's Tiger Hidden Method (Hu Qian Fa), which subdues Yang and solidifies Yin, using Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) and Bai Zhu (Phellodendron Bark) with bitter-cold and heavy properties does not unblock the Extraordinary Vessels. I use soft agents and Yang-tonifying herbs to unblock the Extraordinary Vessels without stagnation. Moreover, flesh-and-blood substances have affectionate qualities; they cultivate the essence and blood within the body. However, the royal way (Wang Dao) yields no quick results; frequent use brings benefits.
Zhu (36 years old): Pungent-warm and salty-moistening agents are soft regulators. It is said that the Kidney dislikes dryness. Taking them yielded slight effect. This indicates that labor injury has damaged the Kidney's true essence, and all Eight Vessels have become lax and failed in their duties. We propose advancing the method of raising Yang. (Yang deficiency with concurrent disease of the Extraordinary Vessels)
Lu Rong (Deer Antler), Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem), Gui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root tip), Qi Zi (Lycium Fruit), Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed), Du Zhong (Eucommia Bark), Tu Si Zi (Cuscuta Seed), Sha Yuan (Astragalus Complanatus Seed).
Fan (21 years old): Parents died early from weak conditions. His constitution could not become robust. At twenty years old, unmarried, seeing the illness already shows depletion and timidity. This alternating cold and heat occurs upon labor. As stated in the *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon), the Yang Linking Vessel (Yang Wei Mai) declines and cannot manage continuity, protection, and encompassing. Lower body lacks strength. Tangible essence and blood cannot nourish the sinews and bones. Furthermore, damage to the lower origin must affect the Eight Vessels. Medicine merely tonifying is useless here.
Lu Rong (Deer Antler), Qi Zi (Lycium Fruit), Gui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root tip), Ba Ji (Morinda Officinalis Root), Sha Yuan (Astragalus Complanatus Seed), Fu Ling (Poria), Bo Hui Xiang (Fennel Fruit), Yang Rou Jiao Wan (Mutton Gelatin Pills).
Shi: Rushing Qi penetrates the hypochondrium and rises to the throat. The physique gradually becomes withered. This is labor injury damaging Liver and Kidney, resulting in depletion and timidity. It arises because essence and Qi do not generate, and rebellious Qi rises upward. We propose unblocking Yang and grasping Yin, hoping to gradually guide and collect it. This is not a method of treating the disease as it appears. (Yin and Yang both deficient)
Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Wu Wei (Schisandra Berry), Gou Qi (Lycium Fruit), Bai Zi Shuang (Biota Seed powder), Fu Ling (Poria), Sang Shen Zi (Mulberry Fruit), Sha Ren (Amomum Fruit), Qing Yan (Rock Salt), Yang Rou Jiao Wan (Mutton Gelatin Pills).
Wang (30 years old): Yang deficiency causes back cold and limb cold. Yin deficiency causes fire rising, irritability, and fright. Chronic illness, partially injured and unrecovered, falls entirely under the category of deficiency damage. Tonification with sedative and stabilizing agents should be considered. In the morning, use Xue Shi Ba Wei Wan (Xue's Eight-Ingredient Pill); in the evening, Gui Pi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction), removing Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root).
Certain patient: Liver and Kidney damaged. Eight Vessels lack Qi. Not yet old but severely exhausted. Tentatively propose a method of unblocking Yang and preserving Yin, awaiting discernment by an expert eye.
Dan Cong Rong (Light Cistanche Stem), Shu Di Tan (Charred Prepared Rehmannia Root), Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Glue Residue), Wu Wei Zi Rou (Schisandra Berry pulp), Bai Zi Ren (Biota Seed), Fu Ling (Poria).
Wang (29 years old): Nocturnal emission and fright. Liver and Kidney Yin fluids are greatly depleted. Yang does not harmonize. The Qi of the hundred vessels within Yin flows from the foot to the vertex, starting from Yongquan (KI 1), as the Sha Yin (Lesser Yin) vessel begins here. To make Yin and Yang close together, it is like recruiting scattered soldiers. So it is said that using medicine is like using troops.
Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Gou Qi (Lycium Fruit), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root), Wu Wei (Schisandra Berry), Yuan Zhi (Polygala Root), Gui Ban (Tartar Testudinis Shell), Lu Bian (Deer Penis), Yang Rou (Mutton).
Certain patient: Pulse is empty and fine. Night fever and morning chills. Irritation, fatigue, thirst, sweating. Visceral fluids are already depleted. When Spring Qi exudes outward, following the *Nei Jing*, whenever Original Qi is injured, sweet herbs should be given. For Yin deficiency, use Fu Mai Tang (Restore the Pulse Decoction).
Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (7 fen), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 qian), E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) (2 qian), Huo Ma Ren (Hemp Seed) (1 qian), Sheng Di (Rehmannia Root) (2 qian), Mai Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber) (1 qian), Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig) (3 fen), Sheng Bai Shao (Raw White Peony Root) (1.5 qian).
Certain patient (24 years old): Yin injury extends to Yang. Added to this, during Spring and Summer, Earth's Yang Qi mainly exudes. True Qi has no internal gathering. Form and Spirit are emaciated. Generally, heat must injure Qi. Consolidating Qi is precisely to welcome the return of one Yin at the Summer Solstice.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Wu Wei (Schisandra Berry), Chao Shan Yao (Stir-fried Dioscorea Rhizome), Qian Shi (Euryale Seed), Jian Lian (Chinese Lotus Seed).
Zhang (24 years old): Visceral Yin has been deficient for a long time. Eight Vessels lack strength. This is long-term damage unrecovered. Moreover, mild pain in the middle epigastrium and moving Qi at the umbilicus indicate that moistening, cloying, and cool medicines are definitely not suitable. Following the system of Da Jian Zhong Tang (Great Construct the Middle Decoction), warm and nourish the Original Truth, strengthen the Extraordinary Vessels, as a method of unblocking and receiving.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Sheng Bai Zhu (Raw Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Zhi Cao (Honey-fried Licorice Root), Fu Ling (Poria), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Dan Cong Rong (Light Cistanche Stem), Gui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root tip), Bai Shao (White Peony Root), Zhen Xun Gui (True Xun Cinnamon Bark), Gou Qi (Lycium Fruit), Wu Wei (Schisandra Berry).
Honey pills. Take 4 qian.
Xu (19 years old): Prone to anger, reduced appetite, tasteless food. Loose stools for three years. Long-term illness, how can there be doubt about internal injury? But clearing internal heat and moistening Lung to regulate cough always hinders Spleen and Stomach. Considering bodily damage, Yin and Yang must first become biased. Thus, Tai Yin Spleen organ is daily diminished, naturally Shao Yang Gallbladder Wood comes to insult. Following the *Nei Jing* method of tonifying viscera and unblocking bowels. Si Jun Zi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) added with Sang Ye (Mulberry Leaf) and Chao Dan Pi (Stir-fried Moutan Cortex).
Again: Deficiency consumption for three years. Form and Spirit greatly declined. Reduced appetite, tasteless food, loose stools. Cold starts from back and limbs. Heat blazes from Heart. Every cough causes shaking of the hundred vessels. Occasionally hypochondriac pain and touching. Various symptoms show the disease has spread deeply. Previously discussed Si Jun Zi Tang to nourish Spleen and Stomach harmony, adding Sang Ye and Dan Pi to harmonize Shao Yang Wood-Fire, so Earth is less invaded. After taking, it did not respond. Thinking that when the two Qi in the body become biased, disease arises. Now pulse and symptoms show extreme damage. How can herbs revive it? Treating the disease as it appears is surely of no benefit. Tonifying Qi has little spirit. Reasonably discuss from Ying (Nutritive) level. Reduced food and slippery diarrhea are not suitable for moistening/cloying substances. Temporarily use Jing Yue Li Yin Jian (Jing Yue's Regulating Yin Decoction) method, incorporating settling rebellion and consolidating retention. If the Stomach does not recover and know taste, it is truly difficult to prescribe.
Again: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Qiu Shi (Autumn Stone), Shan Yao (Dioscorea Rhizome), Fu Ling (Poria), He Che Jiao Wan (Placenta Gelatin Pills).
Zhang: Excessive sweating leads to loss of Yang. This is because doctors do not know that labor fatigue and cold invasion cause illness with internal injury. But dispersing wind-cold exterior syndrome caused error. Lingering for half a year, the injury is unrecovered. Those who can eat should tonify Qi and Blood simultaneously.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fu Ling (Poria), Sha Yuan (Astragalus Complanatus Seed), Cong Rong (Cistanche Stem), Gui Shen (Angelica Sinensis Root tip), Gou Qi (Lycium Fruit).
Zhang (19 years old): Yin injury becomes consumption. Due to reduced food, loose stools, alternating cold and heat. Tentatively treat from the Middle. Spleen governs Ying (Nutritive), Stomach governs Wei (Defensive). Yi Gong San (Extraordinary Work Powder) added with Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Berry).
Wu (36 years old): Deficiency damage reaches reduced food, abdominal pain, loose stools. Middle Palace Post-Heaven is urgent. Do not stick to phlegm-cough detailed treatment. Yi Gong San remove Bai Zhu, add Chao Bai Shao (Stir-fried White Peony Root) and Wei Yi Zhi Ren (Baked Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit).
Yang (Mrs.): Back cold, Heart heat, weak Stomach, few meals. Menstrual period still arrives. This belongs to Upper Damage. (Upper damage affects Stomach)
Sheng Di (Rehmannia Root), Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), Chao Mai Dong (Stir-fried Ophiopogon Tuber), Sheng Bian Dou (Raw Lablab Bean), Sheng Gan Cao (Raw Licorice Root).
Zhong: Long-term cough. Spirit declines, flesh wastes. This is due to labor fatigue internal injury. Doctors do not distinguish whether damage is from above or below. But use bitter-cold and sinking drugs. Qi leaks, sweat pours. Fluids consumed, night heat. Stomach gate suffers bitterness and damage. Food intake suddenly decreases thereafter. Old consumption lingers. How can it be easily settled? Use Jian Zhong (Construct the Middle) method. Huang Qi (Astragalus Root) Jian Zhong Tang remove Ginger.
Again: Add Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra Berry) to the previous formula.
Again: Flat supplement Three Yin method.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Chao Shan Yao (Stir-fried Dioscorea Rhizome), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Wu Wei (Schisandra Berry), Nu Zhen Zi (Ligustrum Lucidum Fruit), Chao Hei Qi Zi (Stir-fried Black Lycium Fruit).
Shi (20 years old): Fine pulse belongs to Visceral Yin damage. Usually fears cold and timidity. Youthful Yang Qi has not grown robust. Summer sudden diarrhea is seasonal damp-heat, not necessarily sudden deficiency damage like this. Now grain intake reduced, form thin, walking suddenly adds panting. Consumption timidity is obvious. Should regulate Spleen and Kidney. (Lower damage affects Middle)
Morning take Jia Jian Ba Wei Wan (Modified Eight-Ingredient Pill). Evening take Yi Gong San (Extraordinary Work Powder).
Certain patient: From Yin damage extending to Yang. Alternating cold and heat arise. Should regulate Ying and Wei. Can use Jian Zhong Tang remove Ginger and Sugar.
Certain patient: Entering Summer, exuding governance prevails. From lower damage affecting Middle Jiao. Reduced grain, form declines. Yin injury affects Yang. Fear of cold down to lower body. Spring advance Placenta and Mutton warm-nourishing and solidifying marrow methods. Accumulated damage is hard to fill. Cannot withstand seasonal exuding. Ancients say reduced food long-term deficiency must use Stomach medicine. Evening advance Shen Zhu Gao (Ginseng and Atractylodes Paste). Morning use sealing and consolidating assisting raising Yang method. Long Summer unrecovered, what to do?
Lu Rong (Deer Antler) (raw ground 1 liang), Lu Jiao Shuang (Deer Antler Glue Residue) (1 liang), Shu Di (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (2 liang), Sheng Tu Si Zi (Raw Cuscuta Seed) (1 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) (1 liang), Fu Ling (Poria) (1 liang), Jiu Zi (Garlic Mustard Seed) (2 liang), Bu Gu Zhi (Psoralea Fruit) (walnut steamed 1 liang), Gou Qi Zi (Lycium Fruit) (1 liang), Bai Zi Shuang (Biota Seed powder) (1 liang).
Honey pills. Morning take 4 qian. Send with Ginseng Soup.
Shen Zhu Gao Formula: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) 4 liang, separately boil spring water. Jiu Zheng Yu Zhu (Nine-steamed Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) 4 liang, separately boil spring water. Each boiled paste covered with charcoal fire thick dry ash. Stew medicine jar until very old degree. Each use paste 2.5 qian, boiling water dissolve and take.
Li (29 years old): Consumption timidity. Form and color snatched, muscles wasted. Reduced food, slippery stool. Accompanied by phlegm choking, throat pain.
