Beng (flooding) and Lin (strangury) share similar symptoms but are fundamentally different. Beng is like a landslide, where the source flows backward uncontrollably; it is caused by blood heat combined with Qi deficiency, leading to an inability to consolidate and hold the blood. Lin is like water dripping or pouring, characterized by difficult, unsmooth, and uncomfortable urination; this is due to internal stagnant heat and Qi stagnation. However, Beng involves only blood, whereas Lin presents differences in red, white, and gravelly discharges: red indicates involvement of the Blood aspect, white indicates involvement of the Qi aspect, and gravelly discharge represents turbid matter within the Qi and Blood. To treat these conditions, one need only regulate Qi and Blood and clear internal heat.
A fine and rapid pulse is favorable; a large and surging pulse is unfavorable.
