Intestinal wind (Changfeng) originates solely from the stomach and large intestine. If accompanied by wind pathogen, add Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao), and Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu).
Prescription: Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao), Sophorae Fructus (Huaijiao), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai).
Treating intestinal wind with bloody stool: Talcum (Huashi), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu) (all in equal parts).
Decoct the above herbs in water for oral administration; or use only Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu) and Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), ensuring no contact with iron vessels, grind into powder, and administer as pills.
Another prescription: Eggplant peduncle (Qiedi, charred to retain efficacy), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi, stir-fried).
Grind the above into powder, mix with rice paste to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take one hundred pills on an empty stomach, washed down with rice soup.
Another prescription: For chronic bloody stool causing blood deficiency, and for those suffering from leprosy-like skin sores manifesting on the face.
Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum (Guiban, two taels, roasted with animal fat), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu) (each five qian), Paeoniae Radix (Shaoyao, one tael five qian), Platycladi Cacumen (Cebaiye), Toosendan Cortex (Chungenpi) (seven qian five fen).
Grind the above into powder, bind with congee to make pills. Separately, prepare a powder of Siwu Decoction (Four Substances Decoction) added with Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), and Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi). Mix this powder with decoction to swallow the pills.
Another prescription: For cases with slow and large pulse, thirst, purple menstrual blood, and labor injury complicated by dampness.
Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, five qian), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai, stir-fried), Rehmanniae Radix Recens (Shengdihuang), Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao) (each three qian), Sanguisorbae Radix (Diyu, two qian), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, two qian), Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu, two qian).
Grind the above into powder, bind with steamed bread dough to make pills.
Another prescription: Treating bloody stool due to accumulated heat.
Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium (Chenpi, one tael five qian), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Phellodendri Cortex (Huangbai), Scutellariae Radix (Tiaohuangqin) (each seven qian five fen), Forsythiae Fructus (Lianqiao, five qian).
Grind the above into powder, use six taels of Rehmanniae Radix Recens paste as binder to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take fifty to seventy pills each time, washed down with plain warm water.
Another prescription: For intestinal wind with rectal prolapse, take five to seven plants of Plantaginis Herba (Cheqiancao), dry by roasting, burn to ash, and apply externally mixed with vinegar. Avoid wet noodles, alcohol, spicy, and hot-natured foods.
[Appendix] When the stomach and intestines are not deficient, evil qi has no pathway to enter. Illness arises primarily from sitting or lying in wind-dampness, excessive drinking and overeating, sexual exhaustion, retention of cold from raw and cold foods, and accumulation of heat from wine. This causes Ying-blood (nutritive blood) to lose its proper course and seep into the large intestine, which is the origin of intestinal wind and internal toxin. Bloody stool accompanied by heat is clear and bright red, with abdominal pain; bloody stool accompanied by cold is turbid and dark, with slight abdominal pain. Clear blood is termed intestinal wind; turbid blood is termed internal toxin. Those who pass stool before bleeding have distant lesions; those who bleed before passing stool have proximal lesions. The popular theory distinguishing bleeding before versus after defecation is incorrect. The general principle of treatment is first to dissipate wind evil in the stomach and intestines. For heat patterns, use Baidu San (Toxin-Resolving Powder); for severe heat, add Alisma Rhizoma (Fuling) and Sophorae Flos (Huaihua); for cold patterns, add Alisma Rhizoma (Fuling) and Aucklandiae Radix (Muxiang). This is a fundamental approach addressing the root. Although Jing-essence, Qi, and blood are generated from grain qi, for lower gastrointestinal bleeding, treatment generally concludes with stomach-regulating herbs. Harmonize using Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction), Shenling Baizhu San (Ginseng, Poria, and Atractylodes Macrocephala Powder), Zhike San (Citrus Aurantium Powder), or Xiao Wuchen Tang (Minor Black Stagnation Decoction). After one round of such regulation, blood will naturally return to the meridians. Intestinal wind manifests immediately upon exposure to evil qi; internal toxin manifests only after long-term accumulation of toxins. *San Yin Fang* (Formulae Due to Three Causes) distinguishes these conditions in detail regarding five types of hemorrhoids, intestinal wind, and internal toxin. Both preceding conditions are treated with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus bark from a specific thorny plant (Ci Pi).
