In general, for a healthy woman who suddenly experiences convulsions of the hands and feet, phlegm-saliva obstruction, mental confusion, and loss of consciousness, resembling epilepsy (Xian Bing) but not being epilepsy. This is a disease of the Liver. Women develop wind due to blood deficiency combined with emotional disturbances (Seven Emotions); unmarried girls develop heat due to blood excess combined with emotional disturbances.
Due to damp-heat binding in the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel), body fluids overflow; entering the Small Intestine, they become red leukorrhea; entering the Large Intestine, they become white leukorrhea.
It is also said: Heat conditions belong to the Blood aspect. If blood stagnates for many days without flowing, transformed by Metal Qi (Dryness), it becomes Bai Yin (white turbid discharge). Treatment should follow the same principle as dampness conditions, using formulas such as Shizao Tang (Ten Date Decoction) or Yugong San (Yu Gong Powder) to descend fire and promote diuresis/damp-draining.
If the pulse is floating and there is aversion to cold, the condition is difficult to treat.
Due to phlegm accumulation flowing downward and infiltrating the Bladder, treatment should involve ascending and inducing vomiting, regulating with Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome), Fuling (Poria), Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), etc.
Obese individuals often suffer from damp-phlegm:
Haishi (Floating Stone), Banxia (Pinellia Rhizome), Nanxing (Arisaema Cum Bile) (treat phlegm), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (treat damp-heat), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) (dry dampness), Haishi (promote flow of damp-heat), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) (ascend), Chunpi (Toosendanii Cortex) (remove dampness), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma) (regulate Qi). Add Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) if wind-pain is present.
Emaciated individuals often suffer from heat:
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Haishi (Floating Stone), Chunpi (Toosendanii Cortex), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma).
For slippery/loose discharge, add Longgu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi) and Chishizhi (Halloysitum Rubrum); for stagnation, add Sun Kui Hua (Helianthi Annuus Flos); for blood deficiency, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction).
Xiao Wei Wan (Small Stomach Pill): Treats damp-heat leukorrhea; after using the following formula, regulate with Kulian Wan (Melia Toosendan Pill).
Kulian (Meliae Fructus, soaked in wine), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus, stir-fried), Guizhi/Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (each 1 qian).
Make pills with wine paste, size of wutong seeds, take with wine.
Add Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) for waist and leg pain; add Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) for severe deficiency.
Blood moves guided by Qi. If symptoms appear before menstruation, it is a disorder of Qi. If symptoms appear after menstruation begins, it is due to Blood deficiency or Blood heat.
Pain upon future menstruation indicates Qi excess. Taoren (Persicae Semen), Honghua (Carthami Flos), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
Early menstruation indicates damp-heat. Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) plus Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma).
Delayed menstruation has two causes: one is blood deficiency, use Xionggui Shen Tang (Chuanxiong, Danggui, and Ginseng Decoction); if the blood is purple-black and clotted, there is heat, add Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma); the other is excessive phlegm, use Erchen Tang (Two Aged Things Decoction) plus Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), as obese people tend to have phlegm.
Amenorrhea (closure without flow) indicates deficiency with heat.
Menstrual blood coming in clots indicates Qi stagnation.
Erratic and chaotic menstrual flow indicates Qi chaos.
There are six reasons for meridian blockage:
Blood is generated by the Heart. Worry and overthinking damage the Heart; heart Qi stagnation causes blood closure and non-flow. The left cun pulse is deep and knotted. It is appropriate to regulate heart Qi and unblock the Heart Meridian, so that blood generates and flows naturally.
Or due to abortion or multiple births, blood was first depleted, then stopped flowing. This is blood exhaustion. The bilateral chi pulses are weak and scant. It is appropriate to generate blood.
Blood is stagnant due to Qi, knotting into masses that grow daily. It is appropriate to attack/expel them.
Long-term night sweats cause blood dryness and amenorrhea. It is appropriate to tonify blood, because sweat comes from the Heart and blood is generated by the Heart.
Long-term tidal fever causes blood dryness, as blood is consumed by heat. Treating the heat allows blood to regenerate naturally.
Spleen and Stomach disharmony leads to poor diet intake, thus blood is not generated. Blood is transformed from food and drink. The Classic says: Diseases of the Yangming merid originate in the Heart and Spleen, causing amenorrhea in women.
