Treats phlegm misting the heart orifices, causing frequent mania and delusions of seeing things.
Gansui (Kansui Radix, processed to remove the core) Zidaji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix, processed to remove the skin) Baijiezi (Brassicae Semen Album, equal amounts)
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with wheat paste to make pills the size of wu zi (loquat seeds), and dry in the sun. Take thirty pills with ginger decoction before sleep, or with hot water. Recovery is achieved when phlegm-fluids are purged through defecation.
Treats men and women who, due to fright, sorrow, or loss of will, or excessive rumination, suffer from qi stagnation that fails to disperse. This accumulates into phlegm-saliva, remaining in the pericardium, blocking the heart orifices, leading to incoherent speech, shouting, and running about. Regular use calms the soul, stabilizes the spirit, and tonifies heart qi.
Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1.5 qian) Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix, 1 qian) Xionghuang (Realgar, pure and clear, 1.5 qian)
Grind the above into fine powder, mix with pig heart blood to make pills the size of wu zi, and coat with Zhusha powder. Take three pills at a time, administered with a decoction of Renshen (Ginseng Radix) and Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma).
Another prescription: Treats sudden manic episodes without fixed timing, where the patient runs wild screaming, attempting to kill, and disregarding fire and water.
Use Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix) ground into powder, mixed with refined honey to make pills the size of wu zi. Take fifteen pills at a time, administered with Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) decoction.
Treats women whose heart qi deficiency leads to hallucinations of interacting with spirits, seeing and hearing non-existent things, and disordered speech.
Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 1.5 liang) Fuling (Poria, 2 liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix, 2 liang) Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma, 2 liang) Chixiaodou (Vigna Semen Rubrum, 0.5 liang)
Take eight qian of the mixture, add one zhong and half a zhong of water, and decoct. Take warm on an empty stomach before meals.
Treats men and women who, due to anger or fright from events, experience spirit leaving the body and emptiness of the mind-shen, with phlegm lodging in the heart orifices, clouding the heart-mind, resulting in incoherent speech, shouting, running, and loss of will.

Palpitations arising from fear within the heart present with a Dai (intermittent) or Jie (knotted) pulse. Palpitations caused by diet present with a Chen (deep), Fu (hidden), Dong (thrilling), or Hua (slippery) pulse. Palpitations due to fright belong to Blood deficiency; palpitations occurring intermittently are treated with Zhusha Anshen Wan (Cinnabar Calming the Spirit Pill).
Zhetong (Severe palpitations with a sense of impending doom) belongs to Blood deficiency and occurs constantly. Those with low blood volume often have excessive rumination, leading to deficiency-type heart movement. Intermittent occurrences are due to Phlegm stirred by Fire. Thin individuals mostly suffer from Blood deficiency, while obese individuals mostly suffer from Phlegm. Common palpitations are mostly due to Phlegm. True intense heartbeat sensation indicates Blood deficiency, treatable with Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) combined with Zhusha Anshen Wan. Zhetong manifests as inner unrest, feeling terrified as if being hunted.
