Verified formula for treating lateral or frontal headache. Ear therapy: Applicable to cramping pain on either the left or right side, i.e., hemicephalic headache. Use one to two liang of yellow beeswax, melt it in an iron spoon, drag white paper over the wax surface to create a wax-paper-like sheet. Each sheet is two cun wide and five cun long. Take authentic Qichu mugwort (Qi Ai), soften it, spread it thinly on the wax paper, roll it into a cylinder using a bamboo stick. Insert one end into the ear canal, ignite the other end, allowing smoke to enter the ear and heat to penetrate the brain; the pain will cease immediately and not recur. If the right ear hurts, insert into the right ear; if the left ear hurts, insert into the left ear. It takes no more than two applications for efficacy.
Collation on Mugwort Leaf (Aiye): According to the *Shennong Bencao Jing* and various commentaries: Mugwort growing in fields and along roads is best; it is not restricted by geographical origin. Secular practice mistakenly calls this wild mugwort, valuing only that produced in Qizhou. They do not realize that the "Nine Ox Grass" produced in Qizhou resembles mugwort in shape, so people call it mugwort, but it is actually not true mugwort. Although its fibers are long and excellent for making ink seals, and its scent resembles mugwort, its medicinal potency is truly inferior.
