This book extracts the essentials of Zhang Zhongjing (Grandee of Changsha), with refined and exquisite debates. For those cases where symptoms are presented but no formula is provided, it traces back to the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon) and extends to other texts, incorporating personal insights to establish methods of addition, subtraction, advancement, and retreat. It truly elucidates the unexpressed intentions of Zhang Zhongjing and supplements his incomplete formulas. This is a creation by Pang Anshi, not merely a commentary without original contribution. Therefore, the quoted original texts often have omissions. Observing various manuscript copies, there are many differences; some did not see the Song dynasty carved edition, leading to variations in transcription; others were supplemented based on Zhang's works, resulting in distortion. Thus, when re-carving the Song edition of *Shanghan Zongbing Lun* (General Treatise on Cold Damage Diseases), I dare not arbitrarily alter the original text. Even if there are manuscript copies, those with superior meaning are only excerpted for reference. Additional annotations are compiled as notes and attached at the end. Pi Lie again records this.
Preface section: Qi (The character "Shi" appears above this line in both Xue and Gu editions, positioned to the right.) Bowing twice (The character "Shi" also appears above this line in both Xue and Gu editions, slightly smaller.)
Line 2: Since youth (The character "shi" is absent in the Gu edition.) Line 8: Huangfu Mi ("Shi" should be "Mi".) Line 10: Capable of debating and expounding thoroughly, frequently using them to treat diseases (Xue edition reads "capable of clearly distinguishing, verifying, and correcting, using them to treat diseases.") Next line: Regardless of wealth or poverty, providing suitable rooms and quiet quarters to regulate cold and heat (Xue edition reads "Regardless of poverty, humble status, wealth, or nobility, all are regulated for cold and heat.") Two lines later: Regulating the degree of hunger and fullness (Xue edition lacks the two characters "zhi du".) Three lines later: Enduring matters (Xue edition reads "Nai zi".) Four lines later: Visiting him another day (In Xue edition, "guo" is written as "jian".) Nine lines later: Thus not recording his deeds (Gu edition does not repeat the character "zhe".)
The first half-page of the fourth leaf of the Table of Contents is originally missing in the Song carving, and absent in all other editions. According to the table of contents, one and a half leaves are missing, yet the spine of this leaf indicates four leaves were carved. It is unknown whether there was text before the table of contents. Since there is no way to supplement the carving now, the omission remains, and I dare not act rashly.
Leaf 1, Line 10: Ice also (Note: The character "ye" is superfluous; absent in both Xue and Gu editions.) Three lines later: Those who have (Gu edition writes "ren" instead of "you", which is incorrect.) Again laboring in the bedroom (Xue edition writes "li" instead of "fang".)

Ten lines later: There are those living in flat areas (Xue edition reads "There are those living in low and damp areas".)

Leaf 5, Line 3: Desire warmth (The character "Yu" in the original is damaged; supplemented here according to the Gu edition. Both Xue and Zhang editions read "Yin" [drink], which is incorrect.)
Leaf 6, One line from bottom: Sufficient (Xue edition reads "Geng"; according to analysis, "Geng" is correct.) Ten lines from bottom: Deficiency-cold (Gu edition reads "Xu han" [deficiency sweating], which is incorrect.)
Leaf 7, Line 6: Erupts in one or two days, connecting upwards to Fengfu (Xue edition has the character "Dang" above, and the two characters "Qi mai" [his pulse] below "Yi".)
Leaf 8, Four lines from bottom: Large decoction (Originally "Da" was written as "Ren"; corrected here according to the Xue edition.)
Leaf 10, Line 9: From slight sweating (Xue edition writes "Shen" instead of "Zi", which is incorrect.) Ten lines later: Stool is already hard (Xue edition writes "Ying" instead of "Bian". Note: In the original, "Ying" is often written as "Bian"; since they cannot all be corrected, "Ying" [hard] should be adopted, following this pattern subsequently.)
Leaf 11, Five lines from bottom: And furthermore pulse (Gu edition writes "Fan" instead of "You".) Eight lines later: Should erupt in two or three days (Originally written as "Er er ri" [two two days], an error; corrected here according to Xue and Gu editions. Zhang edition reads "San si ri" [three four days], which is correct.) Nine lines later: And deafness (Xue edition reads "Er long" [ear deafness], Gu edition reads "Long" [deaf].) Ten lines later: Carrying each other (Xue edition reads "Xiang bo" [struggle against each other].)
Leaf 12, Nine lines from bottom: Cold damage for three or four days, Yang is exhausted (Xue edition reads "Cold damage for three days, three Yang meridians are exhausted"; Gu edition reads "Cold damage for three or four days, three Yang meridians are exhausted". According to analysis, Xue edition is correct.)
Leaf 14, Line 5 annotation: Therefore Peony (Xue edition reads "But only use Peony".) Line 10: In sleep (Song edition has omissions and errors. According to Zhang Zhongjing's original text, it should be "Dan yu mei" [only desires to sleep].)
Leaf 15, Line 4: Therefore use small-acrid medicines to warm and disperse (Gu edition reads "Therefore use warm-dispersing medicines".)
Leaf 16, Five lines from bottom: Already combined to treat (Xue edition reads "Already immediately combine to eliminate and combine to treat". Gu edition writes "Bi" instead of "Yi". According to analysis, it should be "Each separately pounded and sifted, then combined to treat." Both Xue and Gu editions are erroneous.)
Leaf 17, Four lines from bottom: Roast fragrance (Xue edition writes "Gan" [dry] instead of "Xiang", which is incorrect.)
Leaf 18, Line 8: Qi rushes upward, pain and heat in the heart (Gu edition repeats the character "Xin" [heart], which is correct.)
Leaf 19, Line 2: Should not be able to eat (Both Xue and Gu editions write "Neng" [can/able] instead of "De". According to analysis, "Neng" is correct.)
Leaf 20, Two lines from bottom: Then treat their Jue (Gu edition writes "Xu" [must] instead of "Ci" [then/next].) Eight lines later: Forever suitable this formula (Both Xue and Zhang editions write "Yi" [also] instead of "Yong" [forever].)
Leaf 21, Line 5: Physician (Gu edition reads "Ni" [reverse/oppose].)
Leaf 22, Line 4: With Taiyin (Gu edition lacks the character "Yu". According to analysis, the character "Yu" in the original is likely superfluous.)
