After administering exterior-releasing medicines, if sweat does not emerge, burn firewood on the ground, sweep it clean for a long time, and sprinkle with hot water. Collect Bombyx Batryticatus (Can Sha), Biota Orientalis Folium (Bai Ye), and Persicae Semen (Tao Ye), adding a small amount of bran and chaff. Prepare a fine powder from equal parts of Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Cyperi Rhizoma (Ben), Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), and Rice Flour. Dust this powder onto the patient. Once sweating stops, have the patient lie in bed. The most effective agents are Can Sha, Tao Ye, and Bai Ye; bran and chaff serve to increase humidity and assist in inducing sweat.
Take seven bowls of water. Heat a pot until red-hot, pour in the water, wait for it to boil, then remove. Reheat the pot until red-hot, and pour in water again. Repeat this process seven times. Take one bowl of the resulting decoction. Drink it while hot, or use it to soak hands and feet, or to rinse the mouth. This method is contraindicated for those with unresolved exterior syndromes and those presenting with Yin syndromes mimicking Yang.
For manic delirium that is difficult to control, allow the fumes of vinegar-heated charcoal to enter the nostrils to calm the condition. Only then can Yin and Yang be assessed, distinguishing them by whether the pulse is forceful or feeble. Abdominal pain may stem from either Yin or Yang patterns. Give the patient half a bowl of cold water to drink. If pain decreases, it belongs to Heat; if pain increases, it belongs to Cold. Further reference should be made to whether the pulse is forceful or feeble.
In Cold syndromes where the pulse is hidden, or in cases of vomiting and diarrhea leading to collapse without a palpable pulse, administer half a cup each of Zingiberis Recens Juice (Jiang Zhi) and good wine to the patient. Survival is indicated if the pulse returns; death ensues if it does not. If no pulse is found even upon turning the hand over, life has ceased.
For persistent epistaxis, stir-fry Gardeniae Fructus (Shanzhizi) until charred black, grind into powder, and insufflate into the nose. Externally, apply wet paper over the nasal passage; bleeding will stop naturally. For persistent hematemesis, grind ink using Allii Tuberosi Juice (Jiu Zhi) and sip slowly. If Jiu Zhi is unavailable, Albumen Ovi (Jizi Qing) may be used. Red corresponds to Fire, and Black corresponds to Water; there is a principle of mutual restriction between them.
In Yin Toxin causing coma, cyanosis of lips, cold limbs, and blackening of nails, where medications cannot be retained, bind a handful of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Cong) tightly, cut off roots and leaves, leaving only the white part three cun thick like a cake. Place half a fen of Moschus (She Xiang) inside the umbilicus, then cover with the Cong cake. Apply heat via moxibustion or ironing; replace the cake when it rots. Approximately three cakes may restore consciousness. First, instill Jiang Zhi, then administer Jiang Fu Tang (Ginger and Aconite Decoction). If unconsciousness persists, moxa thirty cones at Guanyuan CV-4. If still unresponsive, death is certain.
For immediate vomiting after taking medicine, drink half a cup of hot Shengjiang Zhi (Fresh Ginger Juice); vomiting will cease. Generally, Cold-natured drugs should be taken hot, Heat-natured drugs cold, neutral formulas warm, and tonifying soups must be well-cooked (simmered slowly over low heat for a long time). Purgative drugs need not be well-cooked (boiled quickly over high heat).
