When profuse sweating is about to occur, one must strictly avoid using cold water, wet objects, or wind to forcibly suppress the heat due to the patient's feeling of irritability and heat.
When Yang-heat is developing and preparing to sweat out, if it is besieged by external wind, coolness, water, or dampness, the constrained heat will instead retreat into the interior and fail to diffuse and discharge, leading to critical illness and death in most cases.
One should not blame the delayed onset of sweating and cover the patient with thick clothing to force a rapid and profuse sweat.
If constrained heat is already severe and erupts after extreme stagnation, a mild eruption is favorable (Shun), while a severe one is unfavorable (Ni). Favorable eruptions are easy to resolve, whereas unfavorable ones are difficult. When the disease has entered a state of constrained heat eruption, accompanied by irritability, heat, and mental confusion, covering the patient excessively with thick clothing causes Yang-heat to become suddenly excessive, Yin-Qi to decline further, and Zheng-Qi (Upright Qi) to fail to nourish the body, leaving no pathway for the opening of pores. This leads to dryness, heat, wheezing, and fullness, resulting in critical illness and death.
Shuangjie San (Double Resolution Decoction): It generally resolves injuries caused by Wind, Cold, Summer-heat, Dampness; irregularities in hunger and satiety, work and rest; emotional factors such as worry, overthinking, anger, sadness, and fear; and various pathogenic factors from inside and outside during the four seasons. Whenever fever, headache, stiffness, fatigue, and painful rigidity are perceived, regardless of whether there is spontaneous sweating or anhidrosis, aversion to cold with fever, thirst or lack thereof, whether it is severe Shanghan (Cold Damage) or epidemic diseases, Lianggan Bing (diseases affecting both exterior and interior simultaneously), miscellaneous Wind diseases, or any recurrence of old diseases—collectively referred to as "Li-Wai" (involving both interior and exterior)—it is suitable for administration. If the pathogenic influence is very strong and difficult to resolve initially, regular use will gradually reduce symptoms within two to three days without causing harm. However, if interior heat is extremely severe, presenting with abdominal fullness, firmness, pain, irritability, thirst, delirium, requiring urgent purgation, Dachengqi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction) should be used for purgation; Sanyichengqi Tang (Triple One Order the Qi Decoction) is also excellent. If the condition persists after purgation, or symptoms are not fully resolved, or if adverse Qi occurs before or after profuse sweating, or residual heat remains after sweating, or relapse occurs due to labor after fever, or infection from others' pathogenic Qi or sweat toxins, or poisoning from miasma, horse Qi, sheep Qi, and other foul toxins, lacquer poison, alcohol, food, all drug poisons, trauma from falls or blows causing injury and pain, chronic Wind-induced dizziness and headache, stroke with hemiplegia, broken wind (tetanus), head-washing wind, Wind epilepsy, gynecological postpartum disorders, pediatric convulsions with accumulated heat, sores, ulcers, rashes, and smallpox—regardless of the number of days since onset—administration of this decoction will unblock Qi and Blood throughout the body and interior/exterior, curing all diseases (This formula consists of Fangfeng Tongsheng San [Windscreen Universal Rescue Powder] combined with Tianshui San [Heavenly Water Powder], each taking half the dose).
Ingredients: Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, sliced and roasted), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix), Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba, purified), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, roots and joints removed), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, ground separately, 0.5 liang each), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, ground separately), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 1 liang each), Huashi (Talcum, 15 liang, ground separately), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Jingjieye (Schizonepetae Spica), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang, chopped), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, 1 fen each).
Grind the above ingredients into a coarse powder. For each dose, take 5 qian or 6 qian, add 1.5 large cups of water, 5 cun of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), 50 grains of Yanchi (Fermented Soybean), and 3 slices of Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Decoct until reduced to 1 cup, filter to remove dregs, and take warm at any time. Administer 3 to 4 times daily, adjusting until efficacy is achieved. For maintenance, take 3 qian with 1 medium cup of water, decoct to 0.6 cup, strain, and take warm at any time, including night, totaling 4 doses. After recovery, continued regular use prevents recurrence and new illnesses without adverse effects. Suitable for people of all ages, it is considered an immortal medicine for daily use. As humans age, Kidney-Yin (True Yin) depletes, leading to severe Wind-Heat and Dryness stagnation, exhaustion of Essence and Blood, and eventual death from dryness; this medicine supports and moistens. Alas! The secular world mistakenly believes that those past middle age have declining Fire Qi and suffer only from deficiency-cold, lacking Heat diseases, leading them to erroneously administer hot-toxic agents, harming countless lives. They fail to understand that diagnosing relies entirely on Pulse and Syndrome differentiation to distinguish Cold/Heat, Yin/Yang, and Deficiency/Excess, rather than age alone. This decoction is contraindicated for pregnant women, postpartum women, those with excessive menstrual bleeding, and those with diarrhea. For miscellaneous diseases, it is exceptionally effective for treating Wind-Heat. Also known as Tongqi Fangfeng San (Ventilation Windscreen Powder) or Tongjie San (Universal Resolution Powder).
