Administer the purgative method. This refers to dry feces (hardened stool in the intestines) residing in the stomach causing delirium (incoherent speech due to mental confusion). Wind-pathogen is on the exterior causing sweating. If dry feces are in the stomach, purgation should be employed. After passing through the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel, if there is no exterior syndrome but pathogenic factors have consolidated internally, then purgation may be used. This statement refers to pathogenic factors passing through the Taiyang channel and consolidating in the stomach, forming an interior syndrome. If, as Cheng Wuji stated, the completion of a second cycle of transmission after thirteen days is termed "passing the channel" (Guojing), does it mean that one must wait until the thirteenth day to use purgation when dry feces are in the stomach? The commentary here states: "One must pass through the Taiyang channel without exterior symptoms before purgation can be used." This contradicts the definition of "passing the channel" as the completion of a second cycle of transmission. The Taiyang Chapter states: "In Taiyang disease, after more than ten days, if the patient has been incorrectly subjected to purgation two or three times, and after another four or five days, the Chaihu syndrome (Shaoyang disease pattern) still persists, first administer Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction)." This implies that after passing through the Taiyang channel, although there is no Taiyang exterior syndrome, the interior syndrome is not yet fully formed, so purgation was originally contraindicated; yet, incorrect purgation was performed two or three times. After another four or five days, if Shaoyang Chaihu symptoms persist, Xiao Chaihu Tang must still be administered. This specifically discusses the scenario of passing through the Taiyang channel. The Huoluan (Huo Luan / Cholera-like Disease) Chapter states: "After diarrhea, the stool should become hard. If it becomes hard and the patient can eat, recovery will occur. Now, if the patient cannot eat, but later, during the next meridian cycle, begins to eat slightly, and then after another full cycle, eats normally, and this state continues for one day, recovery should occur. If recovery does not occur, it does not belong to the Yangming (Yang Brightness) category."
