Ulcer-related diarrhea that does not stop may be caused by excessive loss of pus and blood, injuring the Spleen Qi; or by the decline of Mingmen Fire failing to warm the Earth (Spleen); or by deficiency-cold of the Spleen Qi failing to control and retain; or by congenital Kidney deficiency failing to secure; or by damage to the lactating mother's Spleen and Stomach with sinking of Yuan Qi, thereby affecting the infant. If diarrhea is accompanied by irritability, heat, and insomnia, it indicates Spleen Qi deficiency; use Dongyuan's Shengyu Tang. If diarrhea is accompanied by dry mouth and desire to drink hot water, it indicates Stomach Qi deficiency; use Qianyi's Baizhu San. If diarrhea is accompanied by irritability, thirst, and desire to drink water, it indicates Heat in the Stomach Meridian; use Dongyuan's Xiehuang San. If diarrhea presents with yellow stool, undigested food, or abdominal pain, it indicates Spleen Qi deficiency; use Liujunzi Tang plus Muxiang. If diarrhea presents with yellow stool and a heavy, bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen; or incomplete evacuation, it indicates Sinking of Spleen Qi; use Buzhong Yiqi Tang. If diarrhea presents with green stool, poor appetite, and abdominal pain, it indicates Liver Wood overacting on Spleen Earth; use Liujunzi Tang, Muxiang, Shengma, and Chaihu. Mr. Dongyuan stated: A wiry pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Wind pathogen injuring the Spleen; use Shaoyao Gancao Tang. A surging pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Heat pathogen injuring the Spleen; use Sanhuang Wan. A slow pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Damp-Heat in the meridian injuring the Spleen; use Pingwei San. A choppy pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Dryness pathogen injuring the Spleen; use Yigong San plus Danggui; or Sijunzi Tang plus Shudihuang. A deep and fine pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Cold pathogen injuring the Spleen; use Yihuang San, Lizhong Wan, etc.; add Fuzi if cold is severe. Generally, those who drink boiling water but feel no heat have symptoms of Yang deficiency and cold; urgently use Sijunzi Tang plus Guizhi and Fuzi. Those who drink ice water but feel no cold have symptoms of hyperactive Yang and heat; urgently use Qingliang Yin. Another method: Cold hands and feet indicate deficiency-cold; use Wuwei Yigong San plus Shengjiang and Guizhi. If ineffective, urgently add Fuzi. Hands and feet that are not hot indicate deficiency-heat; use Wuwei Yigong San and Qiwei Bashu San. Hot hands and feet indicate excess-heat; use Xiehuang San. There are many cases of recurrence.
A child with a chronic ulcer on the arm developed diarrhea after eating, with a heavy, bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen, and a sallow or pale complexion. The Cun pulses at both wrists were short and did not reach their normal position, feeling empty upon pressure. This was due to deficiency-cold and sinking of Spleen Qi, failing to ascend and transform. Use Bawei Wan to tonify Mingmen Fire, assisted by Yiqi Tang to double the Stomach Qi. After more than a month, gradual improvement occurred, further assisted by Ershen Wan, healing completely after two months.
A child with an ulcer on the leg developed diarrhea after suppuration, with poor appetite and cold hands and feet, occurring mostly in the early morning and night. This transformed into deficiency-cold of the Spleen and Kidney. Use Siming Wan, Liujunzi Tang, Shengjiang, and Guizhi for gradual improvement, intermixed with Yiqi Tang until cured.
A child with a chronic perianal abscess developed diarrhea, sallow complexion, intermittent cold hands and feet, and a heavy, bearing-down sensation in the lower abdomen. This was a serious condition of deficiency and sinking of Spleen Qi. In the morning, use Yiqi Tang containing Renshen 5 qian and Baizhu 2 qian; in the evening, use Yigong San containing Renshen 3 qian and Baizhu 2 qian. Additionally, decoct 2 liang of Renshen as tea. Healed after more than two months. At age seventeen, after marriage, he suffered from perianal abscess and diarrhea with cold hands and feet, nearly fatal. I diagnosed this as decline of Mingmen Fire and used Bawei Wan and Yiqi Tang to cure him.
A child with phlegm-nodules (multiple abscesses) developed diarrhea after suppuration, with difficulty digesting food. I diagnosed this as Spleen Qi deficiency and used Liujunzi Tang to cure him. Later, due to food stagnation causing diarrhea and cold hands and feet, I used Liujunzi Tang with Shengjiang and Guizhi. When ineffective, I administered Renshen 1 liang and Fuzi 1 qian for several doses, after which all symptoms subsided. Then, I used Dushen Tang, curing him after about a month.
A child with scrofula developed diarrhea, a bluish complexion, and abdominal distension. Upon inquiry, the lactating mother had pain in her nipples and breasts. Since the breasts belong to the Stomach Meridian and the nipples to the Liver Meridian, this was caused by Liver Wood overacting on Spleen Earth. The child's disease belonged to these meridians, representing a mother-child concurrent illness. In the morning, use Yiqi Tang; in the evening, use Liujunzi Tang as the main formula, adding Shengma and Chaihu, assisted by Fei'er Wan. Both mother and child took the medicine and recovered together.
A child with scrofula developed diarrhea. After taking diuretic agents, urination became difficult, with a sallow complexion and poor appetite. I diagnosed this as deficiency of Spleen and Lung Qi, failing to distribute nutrients to the viscera. In the morning, use Yiqi Tang; in the evening, use Yigong San. All symptoms resolved.
A child with scrofula developed diarrhea, a bluish complexion, and abdominal distension. This was Spleen deficiency with Liver overaction. Use Yigong San as the main formula, assisted by Siwei Fei'er Wan. Symptoms gradually improved; later, switch to Fei'er Wan as the main formula and Yigong San as the assistant to achieve cure.
A child with a chronic buttock abscess developed diarrhea, irregular urination and defecation, fever, and thirst. I reasoned that the Kidney opens into the two yin orifices, hence the irregularity of urination and defecation. This was due to congenital Kidney Qi deficiency and heat. Use Dihuang Wan and Yiqi Tang. Symptoms gradually receded, muscles regenerated, and the wound healed spontaneously.
A child with scrofula and diarrhea presented with emaciation. This was Liver-Spleen malnutrition syndrome. Use Yigong San for three doses, then administer Ema Wan once. Cured after more than a month.
A fifteen-year-old boy, engaging in sexual activity prematurely, suffered from this condition. He took Shixuan San without success. I advised strongly tonifying Yuan Qi. He refused, leading to aversion to cold and fever, thirst with expectoration, dizziness, hot hands and feet, and painful defecation/urination. His body became emaciated. I diagnosed this as depletion of essence and blood before full maturity. Use Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Jiaban Bawei Wan, decocting 2 liang of Renshen daily as tea. Cured after more than three months.
A fifteen-year-old boy developed diarrhea as his leg abscess was healing. I used Buzhong Yiqi Tang and Liujunzi Tang to cure him. Later, due to mental fatigue from studies and irregular diet, diarrhea recurred. I diagnosed unrestored Stomach Qi and continued the previous prescription. He refused, taking digestive aids instead, leading to incessant diarrhea and death. When Stomach Qi is harmonious, food enters the Stomach, its essence is transported to the Spleen, returns to the Lung, circulates through the vessels, and forms Ying and Wei. If diet is damaged or daily routine irregular, harming Stomach Qi, the ascending clear essence instead descends, causing undigested stool diarrhea. Without raising Yang and tonifying Qi, it cannot be cured.
Bawei Dihuang Wan treats various ulcers where decline of Mingmen Fire fails to generate Spleen Earth, leading to Qi and Blood deficiency, inability to generate flesh, and failure of wounds to close, or transformation into various deteriorating conditions. It is also a sacred medicine for post-ulcer symptoms such as frequent urination, loose stools, anorexia, thirst, fever, and lack of muscle regeneration. Unfortunately, people often distrust it without trial.
Shudihuang (8 liang, soaked in Shengdihuang with Huangjiu, steamed and sun-dried nine times in a clay pot), Shanzhuyu (meat taken after mixing with Huangjiu), Shanyao (4 liang each), Mudanpi, Baifuling, Zexie (3 liang each), Paofuzi (1 liang), Rougui (1 liang, scraped clean).
Mix ingredients with Huangjiu to form a paste, grind other herbs into powder, mix evenly, add wine paste to make pills. Administer with plain water according to age.
Siming Wan treats ulcers with Spleen deficiency and weak Stomach, loose stools, poor appetite, or diarrhea with abdominal pain. Also treats Kidney deficiency diarrhea at dawn.
Roudoukou (2 liang), Buguzhi (4 liang), Wuweizi (2 liang), Wuzhuyu (1 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Boil 65 red dates and 6 liang of Shengjiang in 2 zhong of water until dry. Take the date pulp to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20-30 pills with plain water or dissolve in mouth.
Ershen Wan treats ulcers with diarrhea due to Spleen-Kidney Yin deficiency.
Buguzhi (4 liang), Roudoukou (2 liang, raw).
Grind into powder. Boil 49 red dates and 4 liang of Shengjiang in 1 zhong of water until dry. Take the date pulp to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20-30 pills with boiled water.
