Pediatric Fetal Disorders: These refer to five conditions: fetal heat (Tai Re), fetal cold (Tai Han), fetal jaundice (Tai Huang), fetal obesity (Tai Fei), and fetal weakness (Tai Ruo).
Fetal Heat refers to symptoms appearing within ten days after birth, such as eyes closed with a red complexion, swollen eyelids, crying with fright and restlessness, high fever, and yellow urine. This is caused by heat acquired in the womb and the accumulation of rich, greasy foods in the mother's diet. It is appropriate to use formulas similar to Qingwei San (Clear the Stomach Powder).
Fetal Cold refers to symptoms occurring within one hundred days after birth, such as flexion and contracture of the hands and feet, or trismus (lockjaw) where the mouth cannot open. This is caused by the mother consuming excessive raw and cold foods during pregnancy or being exposed to cold pathogens. It is appropriate to use formulas similar to Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Powder for Extraordinary Function).
Fetal Jaundice refers to yellowing of both the body and the eyes, scanty and difficult urination, refusal to nurse accompanied by crying, abdominal distension with diarrhea. This is caused by the mother consuming excessive roasted and spicy foods during pregnancy, leading to the generation of damp-heat. It is appropriate to use formulas similar to Shengdi Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction); if the heat is severe, formulas similar to Xiehuang San (Drain the Spleen Powder) may be used.
Fetal Obesity refers to a condition where the infant has thick muscle constitution and ruddy skin color all over the body, but gradually becomes emaciated after one month. Symptoms include vexatious heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest), difficulty in defecation, and drooling from the corners of the mouth. This is caused by the transmission of stomach heat from the mother. The nursing mother should take Dalianqiao Yin (Large Scutellaria and Forsythia Decoction), and the infant should undergo the Body Bathing Method (Yuti Fa) to unblock the couli (skin pores and interstices).
Fetal Weakness refers to a lack of luster on the face, thin and emaciated body, absence of ruddy color in the skin, watery white stools, frequent hiccupping or sighing, and listless eyes. The Body Bathing Method is also appropriate here.
Xiaofeng San (Eliminate Wind Powder): Treats various wind pathogens attacking upwards, causing dizziness and vertigo of the head and eyes, stiffness and tension in the neck and back, painful limbs, muscle tremors, tinnitus resembling cicada chirping, nasal congestion with frequent sneezing, numb and tough skin, itching and urticaria, dry and dim vision with fatigue.
Ingredients: Bai Fuling (Poria), Xiong Qiang (Notopterygium Root), Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Huoxiang Ye (Agastache Leaf), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried, silk removed), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough, lightly stir-fried), Gancao (Licorice Root), Houpo (Magnolia Bark, peeled and processed with ginger juice), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, stir-fried).
Grind the above ingredients into powder. Take half a qian per dose, mixed with clear tea water or mint decoction; Jingjie decoction is also acceptable.
Shengdi Huang Tang (Rehmannia Decoction): Treats cases where the pregnant woman consumed alcohol, wheat products, and accumulated heat from "Five Pungent Spices" (Wu Xin), resulting in the newborn having yellowing of the entire body and face. The nursing mother must still avoid alcohol, wheat products, and the Five Pungent Spices.
Ingredients: Sheng Di Huang (Rehmannia Root), Shaoyao (Peony Root), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root) (in equal proportions).
Take five qian per dose, decoct with water for the mother to drink, and drip a few drops into the infant's mouth.
