The symptom of vomiting is generally considered by people to be due to deficiency of the Stomach (Wei), who would have known that it stems from Kidney (Shen) deficiency? Therefore, if treatment for vomiting fails, one has not yet perceived the root of the disease. The prescription is as follows:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen, 5 qian), Qian Shi (Euryales Semen, 5 qian), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, 5 grains), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 0.5 fen).
Decoct in water and take orally.
[This prescription appears to treat the Spleen (Pi) and Stomach, but unknown to many, all these herbs enter the Kidney channel. Ginseng is used in this formula to rescue Stomach Qi, while the remaining herbs enter the Kidney meridian and do not merely stay in the Spleen. Kidney Fire generates Spleen Earth, and Spleen Earth generates Stomach Qi; once Stomach Qi circulates, vomiting naturally subsides. This is a method of treating the Stomach by addressing the Kidney—who knows this?]
Stomach vomiting arises from Spleen deficiency; when Spleen Qi fails to descend, it inevitably rebels upward causing vomiting. Tonifying the Spleen ensures the peace of the Stomach. The prescription is as follows:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 qian), Shen Qu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 1 qian), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Zingibere et Alumine, 1 qian), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus Rotundus, 3 grains).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Why does this prescription treat Stomach disease by tonifying Spleen Earth? The Stomach serves as the gate of the Kidney. Turbulence at the gate results from chaos within the pass. Thus, to ensure tranquility outside the gate, one must first ensure peace within the pass.
Moreover, the use of Sha Ren, Ban Xia, and Shen Qu consists entirely of anti-emetic agents; how could they fail to produce miraculous effects? This is a method of dual tonification of the Spleen and Stomach.
Vomiting and diarrhea due to Kidney Cold arise from Heart Cold and weak Stomach function. Continuous vomiting with food regurgitated after a long retention characterizes the former. Persistent diarrhea with pain and bowel movements three to five times during the early morning hours (Wu Geng) characterizes the latter. People often attribute this condition to Cold in the Spleen and Stomach, yet treatments targeting the Spleen and Stomach prove ineffective. Why? Because the Stomach is the gate of the Kidney, and the Spleen is the sea of the Kidney. If Stomach Qi is weak and Ming Men Fire (Gate of Life Fire) is not supplemented, the Pericardium becomes excessively cold, making it impossible to generate Stomach Earth and digest grain foods. If Spleen Qi is weak and Ming Men Fire is not supplemented, the Lower Jiao becomes deficient and cold, making it impossible to transform dregs into essence and nutrients. Therefore, there is no urgency greater than tonifying the Kidney when aiming to tonify the Spleen and Stomach. The prescription is as follows:
Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 3 liang), Shan Yu Rou (Corni Fructus, 2 liang), Fu Ling (Poria, 3 liang), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 liang), Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, 4 liang), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 liang), Rou Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex, 1 liang), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus, 1 liang), Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 5 qian).
Process into honey pills, take 5 qian on an empty stomach daily.
[The brilliance of this prescription lies primarily in the predominance of Kidney-tonifying herbs over Spleen and Stomach herbs. Its particular excellence lies in using warming-hot herbs to supplement both the Kidney and Spleen Earth, ensuring sufficient Fire and robust Earth. Who realizes that sufficient Water generates Fire? Such discourse is unheard of in the world; it is not mere empty talk to show off novelty. There is profound truth within. Trials invariably yield immediate efficacy. I hope people will pay close attention to this wonderful method.]
