It is said in ancient texts: "Where the soil is thick and the water deep, one dwells without illness." Therefore, wherever people choose to reside, they should seek places with thick soil and abundant water. The soil should be firm, moist, and yellow; the water should be sweet, clear, and pure.
Living quarters should be extremely well-sealed, without any small gaps, to prevent wind pathogens from entering. Long-term exposure to wind easily harms the human body. Wind is the Qi of Heaven and Earth; it can generate all things, but it can also damage them. Initially, wind enters between the Couli (skin texture and pores), gradually penetrating into the muscles and skin, then transmitting internally through the meridians to reach the Zang-Fu organs. Once the transmission becomes widespread, the resulting harm is profound. Thus, the ancients said: "Avoid wind as if avoiding arrows." Sitting for long periods in houses open at both ends during the height of summer greatly attracts wind, especially in narrow alleys. One should not sleep outdoors exposed to the air during the hottest months. From after Lichun (Start of Spring) until before Liqiu (Start of Autumn), one's head should face East when sleeping; from after Liqiu until before Lichun, the head should face West. Frequently using herbal pillows is superior to jade pillows, as jade is too cold and damages the brain. If the herbs are excessively hot, the heat will rush upward; if excessively cold, the cold will injure the brain. Only those that regulate wind, calm the liver, and provide a cooling effect are appropriate.
(Long-term use treats Head Wind, dizziness, heaviness of the brain, cold pain, dim vision, nasal congestion, and helps ward off evil influences.)

Finely chop the aforementioned ingredients, remove fine dust/powder, and mix evenly. Place them in a raw silk bag to allow the aroma to diffuse. Then, double-wrap this in a green silk bag, sewing it into a pillow shape. Fill tightly with the herbs and place inside a special box. The box is shaped like a pillow; insert the herb bag so that it protrudes from the rim of the box by about one cun and half. When ready to sleep, lift the lid; otherwise, keep it covered to prevent the medicinal Qi from dissipating. Over time, the pillow will compress; replenish with more herbs or add black beans to restore its original volume. After three to five months, when the medicinal scent fades, replace the contents. Within ten days or a month of initial use, slight ringing in the ears may occur, which is a sign that the medicine is extracting wind pathogens.
