In cases of infantile acute convulsion (Ji Jing), which is a syndrome characterized by an excess of wind-phlegm due to Liver Wood, the treatment should focus on pacifying the Liver, calming the Heart, dispelling wind, resolving phlegm, descending fire, and clearing internal heat. In contrast, chronic convulsion (Man Jing) stems from Spleen Earth deficiency, often resulting from prolonged vomiting and diarrhea that fail to secure Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi), or from insufficient Yuan Qi following a severe illness. The treatment should prioritize tonification while simultaneously employing methods to promote free flow. It is highly erroneous for laypeople to use a single prescription to treat both conditions indiscriminately.
Niu Dan Nan Xing (Arisaema cum Bile prepared with Ox Gall) (4.5 qian), Quan Xie (Scorpio/Scorpion) (2 qian), Jing Jie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, remove rhizome), Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried), Tian Zhu Huang (Calamiform Bamboo Concretion) (each 3 qian), Chen Sha (Cinnabar, processed with Tian Kui Cao, 1.6 fen, separately ground), Hu Po (Amber), Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis/Ox Calculus, separately ground), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough), Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root) (each 1.5 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Use paste made from Yam (Shan Yao) as a binder to form pills the size of longans. Coat the pills with Cinnabar (Zhu Sha). Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Ginger Decoction. This is a highly effective family secret recipe from the Deng pediatric family in Jishui.
Another formula: For treating acute convulsion.
Che Qian Zi (Plantago Seed) (3 qian), Qing Fen (Calomel) (1 qian), She Xiang (Musk) (2 fen, separately ground), Pian Nao (Borneol) (1.5 fen, separately ground), Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis/Ox Calculus) (1 qian, separately ground), Quan Xie (Scorpio/Scorpion) (14 pieces), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome) (2 qian), Niu Dan Nan Xing (Arisaema cum Bile prepared with Ox Gall) (2 qian), Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma) (1 qian), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) (3 qian, separately ground), Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis) (3 qian), Zhen Zhu (Pearl) (1 qian, separately ground), Nan Er Ru (Male Infant's Milk) (1 zhan), Sheng Ren Xue (Fresh Human Blood) (2 chi).
Grind each ingredient separately and mix evenly. Use Millet Paste as a binder to form pills the size of soybeans. Coat the pills with Cinnabar (Zhu Sha). Take one pill per dose, ground down with Schizonepeta and Mint Decoction. Initially, take half a pill, grind it into fine powder, and insufflate it into the nostrils. Externally, apply a mixture of Shi Nao (Camphor) and Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, removing the head) to specific areas of the body; this yields excellent results.
If acute convulsion persists for a long time, the following formula may also be used:
Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), Bai Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood, remove skin and heart), Hu Po (Amber), Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, stir-fried), Quan Xie (Scorpio/Scorpion), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, remove rhizome), Niu Dan Nan Xing (Arisaema cum Bile prepared with Ox Gall), Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma, raw use), Chan Tui (Cicada Slough, remove soil impurities), Qi She Rou (Agkistrodon Meat) (each 2 qian), Chen Sha (Cinnabar) (1 qian, separately ground), She Xiang (Musk) (2 fen).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Use refined Honey as a binder to form pills the size of soybeans. Coat the pills with Cinnabar (Zhu Sha). Take one pill per dose. For acute convulsion, dissolve in Acorus Decoction; for other types of convulsion, dissolve in Mint Decoction. These two formulas are highly effective generational secrets from the Xia pediatric family in Wuhu.
