In cases of blood stasis pain within three days postpartum, the use of *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix) should be cautious and moderate. In critical emergencies, adding Ginseng can save life. If the condition shows signs of improvement after taking this prescription, the dosage of Ginseng should be reduced, and the original formula continued.
For those who have not taken *Shenghua Tang* (Decoction for Generating New Blood) within seven days postpartum, and whose blood stasis pain persists, *Shenghua Tang* may still be administered to dissipate stasis and relieve pain.
For newly delivered women or within three days postpartum, if pain and stasis persist after two or three doses of *Shenghua Tang*, several more doses should be taken. Naturally, the stasis will dissipate, pain will cease, new blood will flourish, and spirit will return to normal.
Within seven days postpartum, if blood stasis has not been eliminated, do not add *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix), *Baishao* (White Peony Root), or *Baizhu* (Atractylodis Rhizoma). Using these herbs will result in unrelenting pain and difficulty in eliminating stasis.
If, within one or two days postpartum, although blood stasis pain persists, the woman suffers from Qi and Blood collapse, fainting, excessive sweating with cold extremities, loss of complexion and demeanor, cooling breath, incessant irritability and thirst, or rapid panting, then regardless of the presence of stasis, a modified *Shenghua Tang* with a larger dose of Ginseng should be used pragmatically to support critical conditions.
During summer months postpartum, take *Shenghua Tang* as described above to relieve pain. Externally, keep the abdomen warm with hot clothing. If covered poorly, even with medication, the stasis disease will not dissipate.
If bowel movement is delayed for one or two days, or eight to ten days or more postpartum, it is due to blood deficiency causing intestinal dryness. It is advisable to take *Shenghua Tang* added with *Huo Ma Ren* (Cannabis Seed) to promote lubrication and unblocking. Taking sufficient amounts of *Chuanxiong* (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) and *Danggui* (Angelica Sinensis Radix) will naturally restore regularity. For deficiency, add 2-3 qian of Ginseng; strictly avoid using *Dahuang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) or other purgatives.
If, within one to three days postpartum, after taking three or four doses of *Shenghua Tang*, the stasis feels reduced and pain can be relieved by rubbing and pressing, this indicates deficiency. It is appropriate to add 3-4 qian of Ginseng to *Shenghua Tang*.
If, within three days postpartum, exposure to cold causes severe pain from coagulated blood stasis, add 5-6 fen of *Rougui* (Cinnamomi Cortex) to *Shenghua Tang*. For coagulated stasis persisting beyond half a month to a month, *Sixiao Wan* (Pill for Six Eliminations), *Dabu Tang* (Great Tonifying Decoction), or *Buzhong Yiqi Tang* (Decoction for Supplementing the Middle and Augmenting Qi) are suitable.
In cases of postpartum syncope, pulse disappearance, physical collapse, cold mouth, and other critical symptoms, only Ginseng can be used pragmatically for rescue. For obese individuals with phlegm or sudden stroke due to violent anger, add *Zhuli* (Bambusa Textilis Caulis Juice) and *Jiangzhi* (Zingiberis Rhizoma Juice) to *Shenghua Tang*.
