One, after conception, it is forbidden to consume beef, dog meat, rabbit meat, sparrow meat, crab, soft-shelled turtle (Trionyx sinensis), black carp, scaleless fish, as well as pungent and spicy substances such as pepper, Sichuan peppercorn, ginger, and garlic.
Two, after conception, one must strictly avoid violent anger; one's mouth should not utter malicious words, and one's hand should not use whips or beatings. This is because anger damages Qi and Blood, and many people experience threatened miscarriage (threatened abortion) due to this. Even if the fetus is not disturbed, if anger enters the fetus, the child will be prone to illness after birth. One must also avoid watching theatrical deities, Nuo deities, or images of strange and bizarre forms.
Three, after conception, one must not climb high places or ladders, for fear of falling and causing injury. One must not reach up high to fetch objects, for fear of injuring the fetus and causing fetal restlessness (fetal crying) in the abdomen. If fetal restlessness occurs, having the pregnant woman bend her body for a moment will allow it to settle naturally.
Four, between three and five months after conception, one should frequently bind the body tightly, preventing the fetus from expanding too much, but not so tight as to cause discomfort to the fetus.
Five, during the seventh, eighth, and ninth months after conception, if the fetus suddenly moves chaotically, with pain that comes and goes over two or three days, or if amniotic fluid has leaked but abdominal pain persists without significant lower back pain, and the pulse has not yet changed to the "pulse leaving the meridian" (the pulse rate is six beats per respiration cycle, or the pulse is deep, fine, and slippery), this is not labor, but is termed "false labor" (Nong Chan). Additionally, if there is sudden abdominal pain one month before delivery but no actual birth, this is called "trial labor" (Shi Tai), indicating fetal rotation. Neither amniotic fluid leakage nor these conditions are problematic, provided one maintains an upright posture while sitting, lying, walking, or standing, and avoids panic, worry, or pressure. Both situations are not true labor; they are caused by bending or curving the body improperly.
The Classic states: "If breath does not move for a single instant, the mechanism of life ceases; if continuity is broken by even a hair's breadth, heaven and earth are separated." This refers to the free circulation of Qi and Blood, looping endlessly; any slight interruption endangers the body. During pregnancy, the fetus resides in the abdomen, and mother and child share a continuous flow of Qi, relying entirely on amniotic fluid for nourishment. After ten months are complete, Qi and Blood are fully established, form and spirit are prepared, and suddenly, like waking from a dream, the fetus naturally finds its way out. Once outside the sac, mother and child become separate entities with distinct respiration. How can the fetus remain inside for long, causing Qi and Blood to stagnate and cease flowing? If the fetal vitality is strong, once the sac breaks, it descends immediately with the amniotic fluid, making delivery easy. However, if weak, the turning is slow; the slower it is, the more exhausted it becomes; the more exhausted, the slower it turns. When amniotic fluid dries up and turbid blood coagulates, blocking the passage, malpresentation or breech presentation may occur, leading to fetal death in utero and the mother's life hanging by a thread. The practitioner must nourish Ying (Nutritive) Qi, tonify Yuan (Primary) Qi, ensure the connection of spirit between mother and child, and strengthen their operational power. Simultaneously, warm the meridians and resolve stasis to clear the path, allowing the fetus to turn and relax easily. With the assistance of an experienced midwife carefully managing the delivery externally, safety can be ensured. Do not exert force too early, wasting spirit and energy, or use harsh催产 (labor-inducing) drugs that damage Qi and Blood. It must be understood that childbirth relies entirely on Qi and Blood. Without medicines that tonify and support spirit, how can one achieve success in obstetrics? Merely damaging the harmony of Qi and Blood will only result in postpartum diseases. Zhang Li's Baochan Wanquan Tang (Preservation of Childbirth Hundred-Percent-Safe Decoction) is meticulous and comprehensive, providing tonification, connection, guidance, regulation of ascending and descending, warming, and movement. It is appropriately suited for both intrapartum and postpartum stages, truly representing a hundred-percent-safe approach.
