Treats Zhonghan (Cold Strike), characterized by coma and unconsciousness, rigid body and stiff limbs with cold extremities, locked jaw and inability to speak, as well as pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, Huoluan (Cholera-like syndrome) with muscle spasms, and all conditions of deficiency-cold.
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), one tael; Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), raw, peeled, navel removed, finely sliced, one piece. Take three qian per dose, decocted in water, taken warm before meals. If accompanied by dampness and deficiency, add Renshen (Ginseng Root, Radix Ginseng) and Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae).

Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction)
See previous Pediatric "Cold Section".
Shen Fu Tang (Ginseng and Aconite Decoction)
See "Wind-Stroke Section".
Treats exposure to cold pathogenic factors, manifesting as headache and body pain, stiffness and tension in the neck and back, Shaoyin disease (Minor Yin Disease) with fever, headache and aversion to wind.
Jiegeng (Platycodon Root, Radix Platycodi); Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome, Rhizoma Atractylodis), soaked in rice washing water to remove coarse skin; Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae); Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, Herba Ephedrae), roots and nodes removed; Zhike (Bitter Orange Fruit, Fructus Aurantii); Houpo (Magnolia Bark, Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis); Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum); Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root, Radix Angelicae Dahuricae); Chuanxiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome, Rhizoma Chuanxiong); Gancao (Licorice Root, Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis), honey-fried; Fuling (Poria Sclerotium, Poria); Rougui (Cinnamon Bark, Cortex Cinnamomi); Shaoyao (Peony Root, Radix Paeoniae Alba); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root, Radix Angelicae Sinensis); Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, Rhizoma Pinelliae), soaked in boiling water seven times; Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens).
Decoct with Congbai (Scallion White, Bulbus Allii Cepae) and water, take hot. For stomach cold, use Weijiang (Roasted Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum).
Generally, cold-dampness belongs to Yin, while dry-heat belongs to Yang. Skilled practitioners use bitter-cold herbs to drain Yang heat, and acrid-warm herbs to disperse Yin cold, ensuring no illness remains uncured. Therefore, Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Unimpeded Grand Powder) is the supreme medicine for draining heat and drying dampness, and Shengliao Wuji San (Raw Material Five Accumulations Powder) is the supreme medicine for dispersing cold-dampness.
Treats Yin Syndrome with deep pulse and body pain, spontaneous diarrhea without thirst.
Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), three qian; Gancao (Licorice Root, Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis); Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), each one qian five fen. Decoct in water and take.
The Spleen belongs to Taiyin (Greater Yin). Cold extremities arise because the True Fire lacks light and Qi to circulate. This formula reaches directly to the Central Region (Middle Jiao), recovering and restoring Yang Qi. However, since cold syndromes must involve deficiency, this formula warms but does not significantly tonify. How can it compare to Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction), which is even more sacred?
Treats Shaoyin disease (Minor Yin Disease) with diarrhea and a faint pulse. If there is no response after taking the medicine, it indicates that Yin cold is too abundant and rejecting the Yang-tonifying drugs, preventing them from reaching the Shaoyin channel. Add Renao (Human Urine, Urina Humana) and Zhu Danzhi (Pig Gallbladder Juice, Bile Sus Scrofae Domesticae) as guiding agents, utilizing their similarity to Yin to facilitate entry. If the pulse suddenly becomes prominent after ingestion, death ensues; if the pulse gradually returns weakly, life is preserved. If the pulse does not emerge, add Renshen (Ginseng Root, Radix Ginseng), two liang, to assist, as cold syndromes are invariably associated with extreme deficiency.
Congbai (Scallion White, Bulbus Allii Cepae), four stalks; Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum), one tael; Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root, Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata), one piece, soaked.
Decoct in water until one zhong volume remains, then take. After ingestion, apply Congwen (Scallion Moxibustion) to the umbilicus, or perform moxibustion on Guanyuan (CV4) and Qihai (CV6). Internal and external treatments should cooperate to ensure the dispersion of Yin and return of Yang within a short time. Alternatively, stir-fry bran with strong vinegar, place in a bag, and apply hot compress to the umbilicus, which is also excellent.
