If accompanied by wind-stroke (Shangfeng), add Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) to the base formula; if accompanied by summerheat-stroke (Shangshu), add Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma); if accompanied by dampness (Shangshi), add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix). This is indeed a benefit for ten thousand generations, infinite and endless. Li Dongyuan specifically elucidated the category of fever due to Yang deficiency. However, in the world, true Yin deficiency causing fever accounts for six or seven out of ten cases, which is no different from Taiyang disease (Shaohang), yet it is not discussed. Why? Nowadays, people see fever and immediately say it is Taiyang disease, requiring dispersing methods. If death ensues after dispersing, they claim that the treatment methods of the sages are exhausted. How could they know that beyond what Danxi elucidated, there are still profound meanings not fully expounded? I have treated patients with fever due to Yin deficiency, observing heat accompanied by thirst and irritability, and administered large doses of Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia). One dose resulted in immediate cure. If one observes cold sensation in the lower body and cold feet, while the upper body is extremely restless and thirsty, or desires to drink but vomits instead, add Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus) to Liuwei Tang (Six-Ingredient Decoction). In severe cases, add Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and serve as a cold beverage. Upon swallowing, the patient is cured. By this method, I have saved many people. Let us further discuss the symptom of thirst in Taiyang disease: when pathogenic heat enters the Stomach Fu organ, consuming Body Fluids (Jinye), thirst occurs. To prevent the drying up of Stomach juices, urgent purgation is required to preserve Body Fluids. In milder cases, it is merely stated that if the patient desires water, it should be given, but not in excessive amounts, without specific therapeutic methods. Even those who treat it only know to use Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), [and Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma)],
