To treat children suffering from excruciating heart pain caused by worm bites, administering this formula will result in the expulsion of worms and immediate recovery.
Wulingzhi (Five-Liver Resin) [Pangolin's feces] (pulverized, 2 qian), Baifan (Alum) [Alumen] (calcined until dry, 0.5 qian). Grind together into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, washed down with warm water.
Another prescription:
Use 6-7 fen of finely powdered Zaojian (Green Vitriol) [Ferrous Sulfate], taken with good wine for immediate cure.
Yet another prescription:
Use Kuanlian Genpi (Celtis Root Bark) [Bark of Celtis sinensis root], preferably from roots of branches growing eastward. Remove the coarse outer bark. Decoct this single herb in water and drink it with meals. The worms will form clumps and be expelled via stool; this is remarkably effective.
To treat all types of intestinal parasitic diseases, larger worms are directly expelled, while smaller ones are completely dissolved into fluid.
Heshi (Chrysanthemum Seed) [Fructus Carpesii], Hufen (Lead White) [Cerussa], Kuanlian Genpi (Celtis Root Bark) [Bark of Celtis sinensis root] (preferably from east-growing roots not exposed to soil), Binglang (Areca Nut) [Semen Arecae], Shijunzi (Quince Fruit) [Fructus Quisqualis], Wuyi (Murraya Exfolians) [Fructus Muraeae], Kubaiyan (likely referring to Bai Fan or similar, text says "Ku Bai Yan", possibly a typo for Ku Bai Fan or specific preparation) [1.5 qian]. Grind into a fine powder and make pills with water. In the first ten days of the lunar month, take on an empty stomach with rice water decoction.
Food entering the stomach requires dampness and heat to undergo putrefaction and transformation. If one has a strong craving for rich and sweet foods, damp-heat becomes excessive, leading to the generation of worms over time. Worms use damp-heat as their nest. The seven herbs mentioned above (Heshi, etc.) all possess vermifuge properties and can eliminate damp-heat, striking directly at the worms' nest. There are many types of worms, each requiring different treatments. This formula is universally applicable and serves as the commander of vermifuge agents. However, there is a specific method for taking it, ensuring miraculous effects. It must be administered between the 1st and 10th day of the lunar month, when the heads of the worms face upward. First, fast for half a day to induce hunger in the worms. At dawn (5-7 AM) the next morning, chew a piece of meat fried in oil. The scent of the meat causes the worms' heads to turn upward. Immediately administer the medicine. Shortly after, assist the downward movement of the drug's power with scallion soup or plain water, so that all worms are expelled.
Ancient formulas for killing worms commonly used Leiwan (Omphalia Lapida) [Conk of Omphalia lapidescens], Guanzhong (Cyrtomium Rhizome) [Rhizoma Cyrtomii], Ganxi (Dried Lacquer) [Lacquer], Dubu (Stemona Root) [Radix Stemonae], Qianhui (Lead Ash) [Ash of Lead], etc. Some add Fuzi (Aconite Lateral Root) [Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata] and Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) [Rhizoma Zingiberis] to strengthen healthy qi. Some add Kushen (Sophora Root) [Radix Sophorae Flavescentis] and Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) [Rhizoma Coptidis] because worms subside when encountering bitterness. Some add Wu Mei (Mume Fruit) [Fructus Mume] and Hezi (Chebula Fruit) [Fructus Chebulae] because worms soften when encountering acidity. Some add Lilu (Veratrum Nigrum) [Rhizoma Veratri Nigri] and Gudi (Melon Peduncle) [Pedunculus Cucumis Melonis] to induce vomiting of the worms. Some add Wuhua (Genkwa Flower) [Flos Genkwa] and Heiqiu (Strychnos Seed) [Semen Strychni] to induce purgation of the worms. Xionghuang (Realgar) [Realgar], Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper) [Pericarpium Zanthoxyli], Shechuangzi (Cnidium Fruit) [Fructus Cnidii], Zhangnao (Camphor) [Camphora], Shuiyin (Mercury) [Hydrargyrum], and Binglang (Areca Nut) [Semen Arecae] are used to treat worms causing sores and scabies. Hutonglei (Tamarix Gum) [Gum Tamaricis], Langdangzi (Datura Seed) [Semen Daturae], Jiu Zi (Allium Tuberosum Seed) [Semen Allii Tuberosi], and Chansu (Toad Venom) [Venenum Bufonis] are used to treat tooth-decaying worms. Chuanjinpi (Hibiscus Tiliaceus Bark) [Cortex Hibisci Tiliaei] and Haitongpi (Erythrophleum Fordii Bark) [Cortex Erythrophlei Fordii] are used to treat wind-xuan (wind-induced skin eruptions) worms. Qingxizi (Amaranth Seed) [Semen Amaranthi] and Fupen Ye (Rubus Leaf) [Folium Rubi] are used to treat worms eroding the nine orifices. Baiguxin (Decayed Drum Heart), Taofu Ban (Peach Wood Talisman Board), Hu Fen Gu (Tiger Bone/Feces - likely typo for Tiger Dung/Bone contextually implies exotic驱邪 items), Gu Shi Zhen (Old Corpse Pillow), Da Shi (Otter Corpse), and He Gu (Crane Bone) are used to expel worms causing consumption (lao zhai).
In ancient times, a person had a tumor on the neck that was unbearably itchy. Only cauterization was used initially. A physician then incised it, removing countless lice, resulting in a cure. Another case involved numerous genital worms in the pubic hair causing unbearable itching. The worms extracted from the flesh had eight flat legs and were either white or red. Rubbing with Ginkgo nuts or fumigating with Vermilion (Mercuric Sulfide) proved excellent.
