The snake inherits the qi transformation of Fire and Earth; its gallbladder transforms into the Wind-Wood Qi of Jia-Yi. Therefore, its taste is bitter with a hint of sweet, its nature is cold with slight toxicity, and it enters the Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) Meridian, Foot-Jueyin (Liver) Meridian, and Foot-Yangming (Stomach) Meridian. Pain in the heart and abdomen indicates worms inside the body; sores in the lower part indicate worms outside the body. Damp-heat generates worms; the bitter-cold nature of the gallbladder can dry dampness and kill worms. Thus, whether used internally or externally for treatment, it is effective. The Liver opens into the eyes; Liver heat causes distending pain in the eyes. Entering the Liver to drain heat eliminates pain and swelling. Currently, when people undergo corporal punishment by beating, they hold this substance in their mouth to dissolve it, which can prevent death. Its function protects the Heart and stops pain, preventing evil blood from rushing upward to oppress the Heart, possessing miraculous power. Combined with Xuejie (Dragon's Blood), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh), Goutou Guhui (Dog Skull Ash), Shuchong (Ground Beetle), Tianlinggai (Human Skull Cap), Xiangya Mo (Ivory Powder), Mapi Hui (Hemp Bark Ash), and Dansha (Cinnabar) to make pills, taking one pill before beating protects the Heart, stops pain, and ensures safety even under heavy beating. For hemorrhoid swelling and pain, grind Chan She Dan (Python Gallbladder), mix with Sesame Oil, apply topically for immediate effect.
Chan She Dan (Python Gallbladder) treats heart and abdominal pain, lower body sores, and red, swollen, hot, painful eyes.
Bai Hua She (White-spotted Snake) originates from Longtou Hukou in Qizhou. It has a black base with white patterns, twenty-four square "Sheng" patterns on its flanks, bead-like spots on its belly, four long fangs in its mouth, and Buddha-claw-like nails on its tail. Its intestines resemble linked pearls, and its eyes are bright as if alive. Those produced elsewhere may have both eyes closed or one open and one closed. It usually inhabits Shinan trees, feeding on their flowers and leaves. Shinan is pungent, bitter, and treats wind diseases; it grows in dark, shady soil caves, inheriting dark and toxic Qi. Thus, although its taste is sweet and salty, its nature is highly toxic. The *Classic* states: "Wind pathogen moves swiftly and changes frequently." Snakes also move swiftly and reach everywhere, thus they can guide various wind-dispelling herbs to the disease site, penetrating bone to search out wind, reaching from the Zang-Fu organs to the skin and hair. All conditions caused by wind, such as wind-related scabies and tinea, facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy), tendon spasm, hemiplegia with numbness, can be cured by relying on its power. Combined with Kushen (Sophora Root), Heshouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum Root), Weilingxian (Clematis Root), Bieshi (Turtle Louse), Huma (Sesame Seed), Tiandong (Asparagus Root), Baibu (Stemona Root), Ruiren (Buckthorn Seed), Qiyè (Lacquer Tree Leaf), and Cijili (Tribulus Fruit), it treats wind-induced generalized stubborn bi-syndrome, scabies, and tinea. Qu Feng Gao (Wind-Dispelling Ointment) treats wind paralysis and wind-induced generalized scabies/tinea. Use 4 liang of Bai Hua She meat, moistened with wine and roasted dry; 7 qian 5 fen of Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome); 2 qian 5 fen each of Bohe (Mint) and Jingjie (Schizonepeta). Grind into powder. Add 2 sheng of good wine and 4 he of honey. Simmer in a stone vessel until it becomes an ointment. Take one zhan per dose, administered with warm water, three times daily. Seek sweating in a warm place; effectiveness is seen within ten days. Bai Hua She Jiu (White-spotted Snake Wine) treats various wind-tinea. Take one Bai Hua She, remove head and tail, moisten with wine, remove skin and bones, take the meat, place in a silk bag. Steam one dou of glutinous rice. Place yeast at the bottom of a vat, put the silk bag containing the snake on the yeast, cover the snake with rice, seal tightly with materials for 3-7 days. Extract the wine. Dry the snake, grind into powder. Take 3-5 fen per dose, washed down with warm wine. Drinking the remaining turbid wine and eating cakes made from the lees is especially beneficial. Wu Shao She (Black-striped Snake) is black like lacquer, with a thin tail like a sword; those with a raised spine are superior. Its flavor, indications, and processing methods are the same as Bai Hua She, but its nature is benign and non-toxic, and its efficacy is shallower. Its head, tail, and bones are highly toxic and must be completely removed. The processing of Bai Hua She follows Lei Gong's method. Soaked in wine and drunk immediately stops wind-pain very quickly and dispels wind-toxin excellently. It treats leprosy, vitiligo, loss of beard and eyebrows, collapse of the nasal bridge, crane-knee wind, chicken-claw wind, tendon/claw spasms, and muscle wasting. For conditions where other drugs fail, it guides medicinal power to achieve success. When taking snake medicine wine, strictly avoid exposure to wind. It is contraindicated for patients with stroke-like syndromes (Lei Zhong Feng) and those who are weak.
Main Indications (Combined Analysis of Smallpox/Rashes): Zhu Qing She (Green Bamboo Snake) is hot in nature and toxic. For dense smallpox/rash without gaps that fails to erupt over the whole body, use this to attack toxin with toxin.
