(Fupenzi, *Rubiae Fructus*) Born from the Qi of Wood, it tastes sweet and sour, has a warm nature, and is non-toxic. It enters the Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) Meridian. It tonifies deficiency, continues what is severed, nourishes Yin, strengthens Yang, adds to essence and Qi, secures seminal emission and sliding, strengthens impotence, beautifies and moistens the skin, harmonizes the Zang-Fu organs, promotes hair growth, and strengthens willpower. It possesses not only tonifying effects but also multiple astringent meanings. It is named "Fupenzi" (Overturned Basin) because taking it can cause the urination basin to be overturned (implying control over urination). Combined with Cheqianzi (*Plantaginis Semen*), Wuweizi (*Schisandrae Fructus*), Tusizi (*Cuscutae Semen*), and Jili (*Tribuli Fructus*), it forms Wuzi Yanzong Wan (Five-Seed Progeny-Extending Pill), treating men's deficiency of essence and Qi, and childlessness in middle age. If Bajitian (*Morindae Radix*), Anawuqi (*Ottonis Testis*), Buguzhi (*Psoraleae Fructus*), Lurong (*Cervi Cornu Pantotrichum*), Baijiao (*Colla Corii Asini*), Shanzhuyu (*Corni Fructus*), and Rongcongrou (*Cistanches Herba*) are added, it treats Yang deficiency leading to impotence, inability to erect during intercourse, and cold, thin semen. It should be used after removing the calyx and decocting with wine.
Fupenzi benefits the Kidneys and secures essence, tonifies Liver deficiency and brightens the eyes, and treats impotence and frequent small urination. It specifically treats seminal leakage due to Kidney injury and essence exhaustion. By using its strong Yin-nourishing and astringent properties, it assists in closing, storing, and sealing. For women, frequent consumption helps conception, reflecting its power to warm and tonify the Liver and Kidneys!
(Jinyingzi, *Rosae Laevigatae Fructus*) Receiving Yang Qi and combining with the transformation of Wood, it tastes sour and astringent, has a neutral to warm nature, and is non-toxic. It enters the Foot-Taiyang (Bladder), Hand-Yangming (Large Intestine), and Foot-Shaoyin (Kidney) Meridians. Dampness-draining herbs can treat debility and slipping; thus, it mainly treats symptoms such as urinary incontinence, nocturnal seminal emission, and sliding essence.
Jinyingzi enters the Spleen and Kidney meridians. It stops seminal emission and treats spontaneous sliding of essence, serving as an herb for converging deficiency and collapse.
Note: Jinyingzi tastes sour and its function is specialized in stopping slipping. However, meridians and tunnels require smooth flow for harmony. If one can regulate the Spirit and nourish Qi, natural consolidation and security will occur. Ignorant people merely rely on its astringent properties, decocting it into soup for regular consumption. This brings no benefit but instead causes disharmony of Qi and Blood, reducing appetite.
(Putaomiao, *Vitis Vinifera* Vine/Leaves) Grows easily into vines. The fruits are purple-black or white. Juice extracted is fermented into wine, which becomes more fragrant with long storage. It has special efficacy in expelling Water-Qi and promoting urination in cases of urinary retention. It is immediately effective in treating epidemic febrile diseases and sores/rashes that fail to erupt. It boosts Qi, doubles strength, makes one robust and healthy. If fetal Qi rushes to the Heart, eating it causes the fetus to descend. Excessive consumption causes irritability and blurred vision. Its root is named Mutong (*Akebiae Caulis*), which is very effective in unblocking bowels.
