Obtaining the number generated by Heaven and Earth, it serves as the source of transformation and generation for all things. However, due to differences in elevation, proximity, and distance, as well as variations in seasonal changes, coldness, and heat, its properties of warmth, coolness, tonification, and purgation consequently vary. It is classified under the Stone category because where water condenses, it becomes earth and stone.
Long-flowing water is the same as Thousand-li Water, taking on the meaning of a long source and distant flow. Diseases of the four extremities (hands and feet) cannot be treated without this water. Smooth-flowing water is similar to East-facing Water, named for its unobstructed downward flow. For retention of urine and feces, drinking this water promotes relief. Reverse-flowing water refers to water that swirls and flows upward against the current. It can induce vomiting to expel wind-phlegm from the upper Jiao (chest and diaphragm). Rapid-flowing water refers to water rushing down steep rapids; it can remove dampness and pain in the lower body, specifically the legs and hips. Well-hua Water is drawn in the early morning. It tonifies Yin deficiency and clears the head and eyes, because the True Qi of Tianyi floats and condenses on the water surface before dissipating. Mountain-bone Water is sought during mid-summer. It resolves seasonal epidemics and dispels pestilence, because at the Summer Solstice, Yin energy begins to arise from underground and is extremely cold. Half-sky River Water accumulates within bamboo or wooden pipes; this is also known as "Upper Pool Water." Its quality is extremely clean and not turbid, suitable for refining elixirs; those seeking immortality must seek it out. Chrysanthemum-flower Water originates from places abundant with chrysanthemums. Its aroma is pure and fragrant, and its taste is very sweet; it can be used to brew bud tea, and those wishing for longevity should drink it. Spring-rain Water is collected in containers from the sky on the Day of Beginning of Spring. Its Qi embodies spring ascent and generating energy. For those with insufficient Middle Qi and failure of clear Yang to ascend, even young individuals without offspring, decocting and drinking it yields excellent results. Autumn-dew Water is collected at the Autumn Equinox by brushing dew off grasses. Its nature embodies the autumn frost's cleansing and肃清 (clearing/purifying) qualities. It treats laborious parasites and corpse-transmitting diseases, distension caused by childhood malnutrition parasites, and those suffering from chronic malevolent influences; drinking this water is best. Winter Solstice Snow Water is stored in jars and buried in excavated ground. Its nature is severely cold, treating epidemic toxins prevalent in spring and summer. Rootless Water accumulates in depressions and does not flow; [Note: The original text here seems garbled or contains a textual error linking rootless water to green olives, but strictly translating the visible text:] Green olives have miraculous effects on strengthening the spleen. Another view states: Drinking stagnant water in marshes causes people to develop mass diseases (Jia diseases). Sweet-Rotten Water is made by placing flowing water in a vessel and splashing it repeatedly ten thousand times, or beating it until pearl-like bubbles form; it is also called Rotten Water. The nature of water is salty and heavy; after being agitated ("rotted"), it becomes sweet and light. Zhang Zhongjing used it to decoct medicines, treating cholera, typhoid, fatigue injuries, and Bladder Ben Tun Qi (fleeing pig qi), yielding exceptional results. It benefits the Central State (Spleen/Stomach) without flowing directly downward, does not assist Kidney Qi, but specifically tonifies the Spleen and Stomach. New-drawn Water is freshly drawn from wells or springs, having not passed through jars or urns. It nourishes the Heart Spirit and indeed achieves miraculous effects. In summer, the water is extremely cold, removing heat and relieving vexation, making it suitable for hot months. However, if it contradicts the climate, the cold and heat clash in the abdomen; while momentarily refreshing, long-term use will cause disease. It can only serve as a dietary adjunct. Hot Soup must be boiled over a hundred times. Drinking half-boiled water causes abdominal distension. Yin-Yang Water is a mixture of half boiling water and half well water, taken orally, which has miraculous efficacy in treating cholera with vomiting and diarrhea. Plum Rain Water is used to wash tinea and scabies, eliminate scars, and when added to soy sauce, makes it cook faster; if it stains clothes, they rot; its stain-removing power is like lye water, distinct from other waters. Fangzhu Water comes from Fangzhu, a large clam. Collected facing the moon, one can obtain two or three *he* (units of volume); it is also like morning dew, also known as Bright Water. Obtaining the essence of extreme Yin, its sweet and cold nature can brighten the eyes, calm the heart, and relieve thirst, vexation, and excessive heat. Pig-trough Water treats bites from various insects and venomous snakes; it can be used to soak sores. Dish-washing Water treats malignant sores that do not heal for a long time; after boiling and adding salt, washing with it yields immediate results. Earth Slurry is made by digging a pit, pouring water into it, stirring until turbid, and after a moment, allowing it to clarify before drinking. It takes the sweet and cold nature of earth and water to resolve various poisons in the Middle Jiao, because earth is the mother of all things, and various poisons transform upon encountering earth. Thus, it can resolve various malignant toxins and drive away vexation and heat. For arsenic poisoning, or summerheat cholera with no vomiting or diarrhea, accompanied by painful distension and death-like agony, continuous drinking treats both. If one mistakenly eats poisonous mushrooms in the mountains, death is certain; if one mistakenly eats maple-tree mushrooms, it causes uncontrollable laughter. Only drinking Earth Slurry can cure these; other medicines cannot achieve this.
