Mr. Qin (Left side, Wangdan Bridge, March): Kidney Yin deficiency with deficient fire pouring downward, causing strangury with turbid urine, obstruction and pain in the urethra, pulse is fine, wiry, and rapid. Treatment should focus on clearing heat and draining dampness.
Mr. Feng (Left side, June): Heat from the Bao Organ (Uterus/Bladder) transfers to the Bladder, resulting in retention of urine and hematuria; it is also said that when the Bladder fails to move freely, it causes retention of urine. Strangury, urinary retention, and hematuria are caused by Yin deficiency with blazing fire and reckless movement of Heart Fire. The pulse is wiry and rapid. Treatment should focus on clearing and descending fire.
Formula: Xueyu Tan (Charred Human Hair), Tong Ben Mu Tong (Akebia Caulis soaked in children's urine), Xi Hu Po (Western Amber), Xian He Cao (Agrimony Herb), Han Lian Cao (Eclipta Herba), Gan Cao Shao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma tip), Chi Ling (Red Poria), Mi Xian Cao (Milkwort Herb), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Hai Jin Sha (Lygodii Spora), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizoma), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen).
If it is Qi Strangury, Bi Xie Fen Qing Yin (Dioscorea Hypoglauca Decoction for Clearing Separation) is appropriate.
Mr. Chen (Left side, June): The Kidney opens into the yin orifices. When the Jing Orifice (seminal opening) opens, the Niao Orifice (urinary opening) closes; when the Niao Orifice opens, the Jing Orifice closes. At this time, Damp Earth is in command. Dampness stagnates and heat steams, causing dysfunction of the water passages. The Earth becomes even less dry, leading to physical fatigue and internal heat, seminal emission without dreams, red and astringent urine, constipation, sometimes edema of the dorsum of the foot and facial puffiness, bitter taste in the mouth, and dull stomach appetite. The left pulse is wiry and rapid, while the right pulse is soggy and rapid. Do not treat this as Yin deficiency with blazing fire.
Formula: Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Tong Ben Mu Tong (Akebia Caulis soaked in children's urine), Zhen Chuan Bai (Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex), Chuan Bi Xie (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma), Qiao Ke (Forsythiae Fructum), Xian Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix Fresh), Yi Yuan San (Benefit Prime Powder - mixed with 2 fen of finely powdered Xi Hu Po/Zenith Amber), Che Qian Cao (Plantaginis Herba), Jiao Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus fried), Fei Zhi Mu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Dan Zhu Ye (Lophatheri Herba).
Patient (Left side, February): Overuse of mental energy causes Liver Wood and Heart Fire to fan each other. The Gallbladder and Liver house Ministerial Fire internally. When Heart Fire moves recklessly, Ministerial Fire follows suit, leading to insecure seminal emission, internal vexation and heat in the five viscera, physical fatigue, and soreness. These all belong to deficiencies in the Yin aspect. The pulse is wiry and slightly rapid. Treatment should employ the method of nourishing Yin and clearing heat. A formula is proposed for correction.
Formula: Tai Shen Xu (Codonopsis Radix tendril), Xi Sheng Di (Rehmanniae Radix prepared), Dan Pi (Moutan Cortex), Lian Zi Xin (Nelumbinis Plumula), Da Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Dong Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Zhu Fu Ling (Poria with Hostia Sclerotium coated in cinnabar), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), Huai Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Zuo Mu Li (Ostreae Concha), Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizoma).
Alternatively, use Ju Jing Wan (Accumulate Essence Pill) or Xiao Zi Shen Wan (Minor Kidney-Nourishing Pill) and similar formulas.
Ju Jing Wan Formula: Tong Ji Li (Tribuli Fructum), Xian Yu Biao Jiao (Fish Swim Bladder Gelatin, stir-fried with蛤粉/Cochleae Concha powder into pearls).
Xiao Zi Shen Wan Formula: Zhen Chuan Bai (Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex, 3 qian), Zhu Ji Sui (Porcine Medulla Spinalis, one strip). Make into pills and swallow in divided doses.
Appendix: Hou Ke Jin Yin San (Throat Department Gold-Silver Powder) for treating Lan Hou Sha (Rotten Throat Sand) and Jin Hou Feng (Tight Throat Wind) [Effective for throat pain, swelling, and erosion due to fire-toxin; blowing powder combined with decoction is especially effective in the early stage].
Ren Zhi Jia (Human Nail, 5 fen), E Guan Shi (Monimiaceae Stone, 3 fen), Zhen Yao Huang (Real Waist Yellow/Bile Stone, 2 fen), Peng Sha (Borax, 3 fen, washed), Da Mei Pian (Ice Piece/Borneolum Syntheticum, 1 fen), Jiang Can (Silkworm, 2 fen, fried until threads break, prepare according to prescription without addition or subtraction).
The above six ingredients, except for Ren Zhi Jia and Da Mei Pian, are ground into fine powder. Place them in a mortar and grind again. Then add Ren Zhi Jia and Da Mei Pian, grinding until no sound is heard. Pack tightly in a container to prevent volatilization. Use by blowing into the affected area.
