The Yang Wei Mai (Yang Linking Vessel) originates at the Jīnmén (BL63) acupoint, passes through the Yùfǔ (BL10), Jiānjǐng (GB21), and deep points; Běnshén (GB13), Yángbái (GB14), and Línqì (GB15) are involved; Zhèngyíng (GB17), Nǎokōng (GB18), and Fēngchí (GB20) follow in sequence; Fēngfǔ (DU16) and Yàmén (DU15) are these two acupoints, with their root located where the neck enters the hairline.
The Yang Wei Mai originates from the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, hidden at the Jīnmén (BL63) acupoint one cun anterior to the lateral malleolus; the Yángjiāo (GB35) acupoint is located seven cun above the ankle; the Yùfǔ (BL10) acupoint should be accurately positioned on the scapula above the posterior shoulder; the Tiāntū (CV22) acupoint is located above the Clavicular fossa; the Jiānjǐng (GB21) acupoint is in the depression of the shoulder; the Běnshén (GB13) acupoint is approximately four fen into the hairline; the Yángbái (GB14) acupoint is detailed one cun above the eyebrow; the Línqì (GB15) acupoint is five fen into the hairline; moving upward one cun leads to the Zhèngyíng (GB17) acupoint; the position of the Nǎokōng (GB18) acupoint is below the occipital bone; the Fēngchí (GB20) acupoint is hidden in the depression behind the ear; the Yàmén (DU15) acupoint is where the hairline enters the back of the neck; the boundary of the Fēngfǔ (DU16) acupoint is one cun into the hairline.
[Note] The statement that the Yang Wei Mai originates at the meeting point of all Yang meridians refers to its origin at the Jīnmén (BL63) acupoint, one cun below the lateral malleolus of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. From the Jīnmén (BL63) acupoint, it travels to the Yángjiāo (GB35) acupoint, seven cun above the lateral malleolus of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. It then meets with the Hand-Taiyang, Foot-Taiyang, and Qi Mai (Vessel) meridians at the upper edge of the scapula below the large bone of the posterior shoulder, which is the Yùfǔ (BL10) acupoint. It further meets with the Hand-Shaoyang and Foot-Shaoyang meridians at the supraclavicular fossa near the upper border of the clavicle, which is the Tiāntū (CV22) acupoint. It also meets at the depression of the shoulder, the Jiānjǐng (GB21) acupoint. Ascending from the Jiānjǐng (GB21) acupoint to the head, it meets the Foot-Shaoyang meridian at the Yángbái (GB14) acupoint, one cun above the eyebrow. Ascending from the Yángbái (GB14) acupoint upwards towards the eye and directly into the hairline, it reaches the Běnshén (GB13) and Línqì (GB15) acupoints. Ascending two cun from the Línqì (GB15) acupoint leads to the Zhèngyíng (GB17) acupoint. Following the path from the Zhèngyíng (GB17) acupoint to below the occipital bone leads to the Nǎokōng (GB18) acupoint. Descending from the Nǎokōng (GB18) acupoint to the outer edge of the large tendon behind the ear leads to the Fēngchí (GB20) acupoint. It then meets with the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) at the Fēngfǔ (DU16) and Yàmén (DU15) acupoints at the back of the neck; this is where the Qi of the Yang Wei Mai emerges.
The Yin Wei Mai (Yin Linking Vessel) originates from the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, traveling along the Zhubīn (KI9) acupoint above the medial malleolus, ascending along the abdomen to the area above the breast and the larynx, linking all Yin meridians and meeting at the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
[Note] The Yin Wei Mai originates from the Zhubīn (KI9) acupoint, traveling upwards from the medial malleolus of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian, ascending along the abdomen to the area above the breast and the larynx, reaching the Liánquán (CV23) acupoint, linking all Yin meridians, and meeting at the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel).
