After taking Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), if there is profuse sweating and a floating, large pulse, administer Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) according to the previous method. If the condition resembles malaria, occurring twice a day, it will resolve upon sweating; Guizhi Er Mahuang Yi Tang (Two Parts Cinnamon Twig and One Part Ephedra Decoction) is the principal formula.
If the pulse is floating and tight, the disease is at the exterior, and diaphoresis (sweating) may be induced; Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) is appropriate. If the pulse is floating and rapid, diaphoresis may be induced; Maxing Gan Shi Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction) is appropriate.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if the pulse is floating and slow, the body does not ache but feels heavy, occasionally becoming lighter, and there are no interior signs of Shaoyin disease (Lesser Yin disease), Yishui Tang (Diuretic Decoction) is the principal formula.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if the pulse is floating and slippery, this indicates heat at the exterior and cold at the interior; Baihu Jia Guizhi Tang (White Tiger Plus Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is the principal formula.
For Han Shi Jie Xiong (Cold-Excess Chest Binding) without heat signs, Sanwu Baisan (Three-Matter White Powder) should be given; Xiaoxianxiong Tang (Small Trap the Chest Decoction) can also be used.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if the body is yellow with fever, Mahuang Lianqiao Chixiaodou Tang (Ephedra, Forsythia, and Red Bean Decoction) is the principal formula. In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if stasis-heat is trapped inside, the body will certainly become yellow; Zhizi Bopi Tang (Gardenia and Phellodendron Bark Decoction) is the principal formula.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if there is fluid retention in the epigastrium (Water Qi in the Heart), accompanied by cough and slight wheezing, fever, and no thirst, Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Green Dragon Decoction) is the principal formula. If thirst occurs after taking the decoction, this indicates that the cold has departed and resolution is imminent.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if the pulse is floating and tight, there is no sweat, fever, and body pain persisting for eight or nine days without resolution, and exterior signs remain, diaphoresis should be induced; Mahuang Tang (Ephedra Decoction) is the principal formula.
After taking the medicine, if symptoms are slightly alleviated, but the patient experiences severe dizziness and eye closure due to sweating, epistaxis (nosebleed) will likely occur, and the disease will resolve through the nosebleed. The reason for this is excessive Yang Qi accumulation.
In Shanghan (Cold Damage), if there is constipation for six or seven days, headache, and fever, Chengqi Tang (Purgative Decoction) should be given. If urination is clear, it is known that the disease is not in the interior, and diaphoresis is required; Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is appropriate. Severe headache will likely result in epistaxis (nosebleed).
In Taiyang disease (Greater Yang Disease), if the Cun (inch) pulse is slow, the Guan (bar) pulse is floating, and the Chi (cubit) pulse is weak, and the patient has fever, sweating, aversion to cold, no vomiting, but only epigastric fullness/stuffiness, this is caused by the physician's erroneous use of purgation. If the patient has no aversion to cold but only thirst, this indicates transformation into Yangming disease (Yangming Disease). Among those who cannot be purged, those with frequent urination will have hard stools; even if they do not defecate for ten days, they will suffer no distress. For those with thirst, Wuling San (Five-Ling Powder) is appropriate; for those desiring water, give small amounts frequently.
When a disease originates from a Yang syndrome, and purgation is erroneously applied, heat enters, resulting in Jie Xiong (Chest Binding). When a disease originates from a Yin syndrome, and purgation is erroneously applied, Pi (Stagnation/Fullness) results. Jie Xiong (Chest Binding) forms because purgation was applied too early. Pi (Stagnation/Fullness) forms due to erroneous purgation.
The *Jinkui Yaolue* states: Yang Du (Yang Toxin) presents with sore throat, expectoration of pus and blood, red face with rash like brocade patterns; Shengma Biejia Tang ( Cimicifuga and Turtle Shell Decoction) is the principal formula. Yin Du (Yin Toxin) presents with a blue-black face, body pain as if beaten with a club; Shengma Biejia Tang (Cimicifuga and Turtle Shell Decoction) without Xionghuang (Realgar) and Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper) is the principal formula.
The *Jinkui Yaolue* states: For minor fluid retention causing shortness of breath, Linggui Zhugan Tang (Poria, Cinnamon Twig, Atractylodes, and Licorice Decoction) is the principal formula. Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) can also be used.
