Bayue Dingzhi Wan (Eight-Ingredient Calming Spirit Pill): Tonifies the heart spirit, stabilizes the soul, treats phlegm, clears pathogenic heat from the chest, and regulates the Lung and Kidney.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) [1.5 liang], Shichangpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix) [decocted heart removed], Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) [decocted heart removed], Fuling (Poria) [peeled, 1 liang each], Zhusha (Cinnabar) [1 qian], Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) [decocted heart removed, 5 qian each], Niuhuang (Bovis Calculus) [2 qian, separately ground fine].
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills at any time, washed down with rice soup.
Modifications: If Marrow Sea is depleted, add Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix) and Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix); if Lung Qi is deficient, add Tiandong (Asparagi Radix), Maimendong, and Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus); if Heart Qi is deficient, add Shangdangshen (Codonopsis Radix), Fushen, and Shichangpu; if Spleen Qi is deficient, add Baizhu, Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Semen); if Liver Qi is deficient, add Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma); if Kidney Qi is deficient, add Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Yuanzhi, and Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex); if Gallbladder Qi is deficient, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Suanzaoren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen), and Diyu (Sanguisorbae Radix); if Spirit is confused and deficient, add Zhusha, Yuzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), and Fushen.
Zhongjing Bawei Wan (Jinkui Shenqi Wan): Shudihuang tonifies the true blood of Kidney Water; Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) tonifies the true fire of Kidney Water; Mudanpi supplements deficiency of spirit; Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata) circulates through all meridians without stopping and additionally benefits Fire; Bai Fuling (Poria) can drain Kidney pathogenic dampness stagnation; Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma) removes retained filth in the bladder and enuresis; Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus) treats seminal emission and involuntary discharge; Ganshan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) treats dryness and astringency in hair and skin. The above eight herbs are all Sovereign drugs. If one does not follow the modifications by Yilao (Zhang Yuansu), efficacy will ultimately be lacking. If Wuweizi is added, it becomes Shenqi Wan, a formula following the principle of "describing categories and imitating forms." "Benefit the source of Fire to dissipate Yin shadows; strengthen the master of Water to control Yang brightness."
Qianshi Dihuang Wan: This is Bawei Wan minus Rougui and Fuzi.
