Yiwei Dahuang San (Single-Ingredient Rhubarb Powder) and Lurong Jiu (Deer Antler Wine): The contents of these two formulas are found in the notes above "San Zi Jing" (Three Character Classic).
Jiawei Zuogui Yin (Modified Left Restoring Decoction): Treats headache due to Kidney deficiency with miraculous effect, and also treats vertigo and eye pain.
Ingredients: Shudi (Prepared Rehmannia Root, 7-8 qian), Shanzhuyu (Cornus Fruit), Huaishanyao (Chinese Yam from Huai River region), Fuling (Poria), Gouqi (Goji Berry) (each 3 qian), Xixin (Asarum), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root) (each 1 qian), Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome, 2 qian), Roubingrong (Cistanche Stem, washed with wine, sliced, 3-4 qian).
Decoction method: Add three cups of water, decoct until one-eighth remains, take warm.
Zhengyuan Dan (Upraising Origin Pill) (from *Mizhi*): Treats Mingmen Fire Decline (deficiency of Kidney Yang) failing to warm Spleen Earth, resulting in vomiting, diarrhea, and cold limbs. Sometimes Yin Fire rushes upward, causing redness and heat in the head and face, vertigo, and nausea. If turbid Qi rebels and fills the chest and abdomen, it causes stabbing pain in the chest and hypochondrium, and distension and urgency around the umbilicus and abdomen.
Ingredients: Ren Shen (Ginseng Root, 3 liang, soaked in juice boiled from 1 liang of Fuzi [Aconite Root], then remove Fuzi); Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 1.5 liang, soaked in juice boiled in wine with 1 liang of Chuanxiong, then remove Chuanxiong); Shanyao (Chinese Yam, 1 liang, soaked in juice boiled with 2 qian of Ganjiang [Dried Ginger], then remove Ganjiang); Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome, 3 liang, soaked in juice boiled with 5 qian of Chenpi [Tangerine Peel], then remove Chenpi); Fuling (Poria, 2 liang, soaked in juice boiled in wine with 6 qian of Rougui [Cinnamon Bark], dried without exposure to fire, then remove Rougui); Gancao (Licorice Root, 1.5 liang, soaked in juice boiled with 1 liang of Wuyao [Lindera Root], then remove Wuyao).
Preparation and administration: For the above six herbs, except for Fuling, slowly dry them over mild and strong heat, avoiding frying that damages medicinal properties, then pound into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add one cup of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one red date, decoct until boiling several times, add a pinch of salt, and take mixed with the dregs. After taking, drink one cup of hot wine to assist the medicinal power.
Erchen Tang (Two-Aged Decoction):
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 2 qian), Chenpi (Tangerine Peel, 1 qian), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 8 fen).
Decoction method: Add three slices of fresh ginger, two cups of water, decoct until one-eighth remains, and take. For modifications, see the notes in "San Zi Jing".
Xiao Chaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction):
See formula in *Shanghan Lun* (Treatise on Cold Damage).
Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction):
See formula in the chapter on "Food Obstruction and Regurgitation".
Dahuang Gancao Tang (Rhubarb and Licorice Decoction) (from *Jingui Yaolue*): Treats vomiting immediately after eating.
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, 1.5 qian).
Decoction method: Add two cups of water, decoct until one-eighth remains, and take.
Ganjiang Huanglian Huangqin Renshen Tang (Dried Ginger, Coptis, Scutellaria, and Ginseng Decoction) (by Zhang Zhongjing): For patients who vomit and have accompanying heat, where aromatic, acrid, and drying herbs like Sharen (Amomum Fruit), Ju Pi (Tangerine Peel), and Banxia (Pinellia) are unsuitable, this formula works miraculously.
Ingredients: Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome), Renshen (Ginseng Root) (each 1.5 qian).
Decoction method: Add one and a half cups of water, decoct until seven-tenths remain, and take.
Jintui Huanglian Tang (Advancing and Retreating Coptis Decoction):
Ingredients: Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, stir-fried with ginger juice), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Renshen (Ginseng Root, steamed with human milk, 1.5 qian), Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, 1 qian), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, prepared with ginger, 1.5 qian), Dazao (Jujube, 2 pieces).
Advancing Method (Standard Use): Use all seven ingredients of this formula without special processing, add three tea-cups of water, decoct until one cup remains, and take warm.
Retreating Method (Adjusted Use): Do not use Guizhi; halve the amount of Huanglian, or add 0.5 qian of Rougui (Cinnamon Bark). If processed as described above, the decoction and administration method is the same. However, take 3 qian of Cui Shi Bawei Wan (Cui's Eight-Ingredient Pill) on an empty stomach, and take the decoction when half-hungry.
