Emaciation with a large pulse and excessive Qi in the chest indicates death; diarrhea accompanied by sweating indicates death; body heat that does not subside after sweating nor decrease after purgation indicates death; coughing with upper asthma and lower diarrhea indicates death; severe emaciation of the thigh muscles indicates death; inability to sleep on one side suggests a high mortality rate; impotence in individuals under fifty years of age suggests a high mortality rate.
In consumptive disease (Lao Ji), if it persists for a long time leading to coughing with hemoptysis, throat pain, and loss of voice, this is transmission from below to above; if there is no cough or pain, but over time turbid urine and essence depletion occur, this is transmission from above to below. Both are fatal conditions.
