Peng Zu's Pill for Consolidating Yang, Securing the Root, Prolonging Life and Extending Longevity (Gifted by Mr. Jiang Wu Shengzhai)
The navel of a human being, at the beginning of conception, is where the father's essence and the mother's blood combine to form a chaotic embryo, resembling the state before the differentiation of Taiji, where one Qi divides into two acupoints. Within this acupoint, four smaller points are produced, connecting externally to the two Kidneys and internally growing the Red and White meridians.
Among these four points, they are divided into exterior and interior layers. During gestation in the mother's womb, when the mother exhales, the fetus exhales; when the mother inhales, the fetus inhales. This umbilical cord of the whole body is like a fruit or flower attached to a branch through its stem. After one month of circulation, the True Qi gradually becomes sufficient. After birth, while the placenta has not yet detached, the umbilical cord is slowly severed. If the umbilical gate is not closed at this time and is exposed to Wind pathogen or Cold damage, it will injure the infant's True Qi. Therefore, moxibustion with mugwort fire is usually performed several times so that the True Qi remains unharmed. By the age of twenty-one days (three sevens), the umbilical gate naturally closes, leaving only a deep depression. As Yang energy becomes abundant and age increases, if one indulges in the five flavors, becomes intoxicated by the five tones, and seeks gratification in the five qi, spirit will be consumed externally, and raw/cold foods will injure internally, preventing the True Qi from flowing smoothly. Thus, the method of steaming the navel to secure the root was established, similar to watering soil to cultivate plants, making the foundation naturally strong and lush. If people frequently follow this method of fumigation/moxibustion, Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) will harmonize, Hun and Po (Ethereal and Corporeal Souls) will stabilize, invasion by cold and heat will be prevented, and the body can remain healthy, which contains profound efficacy. The Lung is the canopy of the five Zang organs, the source of voice, and the skin and hair rely on it for moisture. Kidney Water is nourished through it. If the cou li (skin pores) are not tight, external pathogens and internal injuries will take advantage, causing cough. External pathogens require dispersing treatment, internal injuries require moistening/nourishing treatment, and stagnation requires resolution. Or, injury caused by pungent and dry medicines, or using agents that cause stagnation without first dispersing, leads to Qi failing to disperse and stagnating in the Lung, producing sticky phlegm and causing wheezing and urgent cough. Or, due to sexual exhaustion and improper diet, hemoptysis occurs, alternating chills and fever, dizziness of ears and eyes, bodily fatigue and stiffness, chest fullness and irritability, loss of appetite, and weak spirit, among other diseases arise. Physicians should urgently use formulas such as Baozhen Wan (Preserve Truth Pill) or Huatan Wan (Resolve Phlegm Pill). If these are ineffective, one must strictly follow the method of moxibustion on the navel. The ingredients for this prescription are listed below:
Moschus (She Xiang) 5 qian. Guides all herbs into the five Zang and six Fu organs, penetrating all joints throughout the body.
Syzygium aromaticum (Ding Xiang) 3 qian. Enters the Lung to nourish Blood, solidifies Spleen and Stomach.
Natrii Chloridum Rubrum (Qing Yan) 4 qian. Enters the Kidney to solidify its "child" organ, preventing leakage from the Lung "mother," similar to how milk nourishes the lower jiao to augment Qi.
Vermisophaga excrementum (Ye Ming Sha) 5 qian. Penetrates Lung pores, tonifies Qi deficiency, dissipates excess from internal injury.
Boswellia carterii (Ru Xiang) and Costus root (Mu Xiang) 2 qian each.
Foeniculum vulgare (Xiao Hui) 4 qian. Treats dampness dripping symptoms, regulates circulation, ascends and descends Qi, preventing wheezing and cough. To cut off the water source, one must first find this origin.
Myrrha (Mo Yao), Panthera tigris ossis (Hu Gu), Naja atra ossis (She Gu), Os Draconis (Long Gu), Cinnabaris (Zhu Sha) 5 qian each.
Realgar (Xiong Huang) 3 qian. Eliminates disease roots, supports weakness, assists strength.
Typhonium giganteum (Bai Fu Zi) 5 qian. Circulates along meridians, possessing the function of pushing forward and pulling back.
Ginseng radix (Ren Shen), Aconitum carmichaelii (Fu Zi), Piper longum (Hu Jiao) 7 qian each. Tonifies Yuan Qi, moves Blood, transforms phlegm into Jin Ye (Body Fluids).
Trogopterus dung (Wu Ling Zhi) 5 qian. Protects Lung Qi, reduces excess, tonifies deficiency.
Morus alba bark (Huai Pi) Can suppress the nature of various Qi movements, preventing them from scattering.
Artemisia argyi leaf (Ai Ye) Utilizes its heat to劫 (seize/eliminate) pathogens and remove toxins, reviving the dying.
Grind the above into powder. Separately, make strips from white flour, forming a circle around the navel. Divide one portion of the medicine into three parts. Take one part, first fill 5 fen of Moschus powder into the navel pit. Then take another part of the medicine, place it within the flour ring, press tightly, poke several holes in the middle, cover with a piece of Morus alba bark, and perform moxibustion. Replace as needed to maintain heat intensity. Heat may penetrate from top to bottom or bottom to top, warming the entire body. The patient will feel heavy and sleepy, like being drunk. Perform 50-60 moxa cones until profuse sweating covers the body, reaching Niwan Palace (head) upwards and Yongquan downwards. In this way, wind-cold-damp-heat in the bone marrow and all Five Labors and Seven Injuries will be eradicated. If there is no sweat, the disease is not cured; repeat moxibustion after 3-5 days until sweating occurs. Although practitioners should carefully perform up to 120 moxa cones, the disease will surely be cured. During moxibustion, avoid wind and cold, abstain from greasy and raw/cold foods, and preserve health for one month afterwards, leading to increased vigor. For women, remove Moschus and add Naphthalene (Shao Nao) 1 qian. Bian Que elucidated the floating/sinking, ascending/descending properties, and Jun-Chen-Zuo-Shi (Monarch-Minister-Assistant-Courier) relationships of these twenty herbs, ensuring the cure of labor-induced coughs, not limited to such ailments. Performing fumigation/moxibustion once in each of the four seasons strengthens Yuan Qi, prevents hundred diseases, and treats chronic cough/wheezing, hemoptysis, cold labor, spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, impotence, extreme weakness of the Lower Origin, mental disorders, phlegm obstruction, women's red/white vaginal discharge, infertility, uterine cold, etc. Using this moxibustion removes hundred diseases instantly, benefits Qi, and extends life.
Jieming Dan (Life-Reconnecting Pill)
Nourishes Dantian, assists both Kidneys, adds essence and replenishes marrow, reverses aging, dispels disease, and extends longevity. Use one large Aconitum carmichaelii (Fu Zi), weighing 2 liang 2 qian, sliced thinly, wrapped in summer cloth. Crush Glycyrrhiza uralensis (Gan Cao) and Kansui (Gan Sui) each 2 liang. Soak together in 2 jin of distilled liquor for half a day. Boil over mild and strong fire until the liquor is dry. Discard the Aconitum, Gan Cao, and Gan Sui. Add Moschus 3 fen, pound over a thousand times, divide into two pills, dry in shade. Place one pill in the navel, change every seven days. Store the other pill in a black lead box for preservation.
Wenqi Zhongzi Fang (Warming Navel Seed-Generating Formula)
Trogopterus dung (Wu Ling Zhi), Angelica dahurica (Bai Zhi), Natrii Chloridum Rubrum (Qing Yan) (each 2 qian), Moschus (1 fen) ground into powder. Separately, mix buckwheat flour with water to form strips, circle around the navel, and fill the medicine into the navel.
Ordinarily, only roasted salt is used. It also treats severe cholera and urinary retention. For severe deficiency-cold, add Realgar (Liu Huang), using Moschus as a guide.
Perform moxibustion; especially suitable for women. Stop when warmth is felt in the navel; repeat after a few days. Excessive application generates heat.
Wenqi Doudou Fang (Warming Navel Belly-Band Formula)
Specifically treats abdominal masses, spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, women's red/white vaginal discharge, irregular menstruation, and infertility. Contraindicated during pregnancy. Aquilaria sinensis (Bai Tan Xiang), Saiga tatarica cornu (Ling Yang Jiao) (each 1 liang), Agastache rugosa (Ling Ling Xiang), Aquilaria agallocha (Ma Ti Xiang/Guang Chen Xiang), Angelica dahurica (Xiang Bai Zhi), Aristolochia debilis (Ma Dou Ling), Momordica cochinchinensis seed (Mu Bie Zi), Nardostachys chinensis (Gan Song), Cimicifuga foetida (Sheng Ma), Draco resin (Xue Jie) (each 5 qian), Syzygium aromaticum pericarpium (Ding Pi) (7 qian), Moschus (9 fen). Grind the above twelve herbs into powder, divide into three parts. Use one part each time. Fill Qimoxa cotton into a white silk belly band. For initial users, remove every three days, wear again on the fifth day, and wear regularly after one month.
