Suspend the pills in water, take 1.5 qian per dose. After taking the medicine, lie on your back without moving; only move and eat/drink after approximately two shi (4 hours). If you feel thick and sticky obstruction in the throat after taking the medicine, it is because the medicinal power is resisting the pathogenic factor; it will heal itself after a short while.

Wang Kentang said: "Ministerial Fire resides in Mingmen (Gate of Life). In men, Mingmen stores essence; in women, it connects to the uterus. Due to excessive desires leading to depletion of essence and vitality, the fire has no attachment, causing jue qi (rebellious qi) to ascend." Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root) share the same nature as fire, and their pungent aroma can open the couli (pores/skin texture), distribute body fluids, and unblock the qi pathways. By occupying its lair and attracting it, through the principle of similar energies seeking each other, the fire must descend. Moreover, the fire emerging from the Kidney is fire within water. While fire can be controlled by water, fire within water cannot simply be extinguished by water. It is like the fire conflict in Bashu; getting water makes it blaze, getting fire extinguishes it. Thus, Guizhi and Fuzi are indeed the correct agents for treating floating ministerial fire.
Shenxian Zhuitan Wan (Immortal Phlegm-Descending Pill)
Heiqianniu (Black Morning Glory Seed, take the finest powder, 3 liang) Zaogao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, roasted with butter) Baizhu (Atractodis Rhizoma, raw, each 1 liang)

Grind the above into fine powder. Use Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) paste mixed with Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) to make pills the size of wu zi. Take 30-50 pills per dose with ginger soup. Another prescription includes Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) and doubles the amount of Qingmengshi.

Finally, use Zhuli and Jiangzhi as paste to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 100 pills per dose with ginger soup before sleep.
Note: Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum) seems best added during the final preparation; prolonged sun-drying may cause the loss of its fragrance.

Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum with Ginger Juice, 5 liang) Zaojia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, 5 pods, skin removed, rubbed and boiled with Banxia) Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 5 liang, pounded together with Banxia into cakes, dried by roasting)

Mix the three ingredients. While hot, pound in a mortar. Make pills the size of wu zi. Dry them. Swallow 50 pills daily on an empty stomach with warm water, gradually increasing to 100, then 200 pills. Avoid peaches, plums, sparrows, and clams. Initially, there may be slight dryness in the heart and diaphragm; taking one dose of Shanzhi San (Gardenia Powder) will resolve the dryness. Shanzhi San consists of Shan Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus) dried and ground to powder, taken with boiling water.
Xu Shuwei said: "I have had two illnesses throughout my life: one is bleeding from the lower organs, and the other is fluid retention in the diaphragm. The bleeding sometimes stops, but the fluid retention never heals on its own. It started when I was young, sitting at night writing essays, leaning left on the desk, so food often slid to the left side. After midnight, feeling slightly tired, I would drink two or three cups of wine. When lying down to sleep, I would lie on my left side. When my qi was vigorous, I felt nothing. But three to five years later, I noticed the wine only flowed down the left side, making a gurgling sound, with pain in the hypochondrium, significantly reduced appetite, and vomiting several sheng of sour water every ten days or so. In summer months, only the right side of my body sweated, remaining moist, while the left diseased side was absolutely dry. I visited famous doctors and folk prescriptions everywhere, but few were effective. Occasionally, the medicine worked, but the relief lasted only over a month before recurrence. I tried tonics like Tianxiong (Aconitum carmichaelii dehanxuan root), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Root), and Fanshi (Alumen), and purgatives like Qianniu (Morning Glory Seed), Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix), and Gansui (Kansui Radix). Later, I analyzed the condition and realized it had become a 'pi' mass (accumulation), like a stone mortar in a puddle; it does not flow until the mortar is full, and flows only when the water fills the mortar. Clear fluids can flow, but turbid fluids remain stagnant because there is no outlet below to drain them. Thus, after accumulating for five to seven days, I would vomit some and feel slightly relieved, but it would recur after a few days. The Spleen earth dislikes dampness, and water flows with dampness. It is better to dry the Spleen to overcome dampness and build up the earth to fill the stone mortar, so the disease should go away. Therefore, I stopped all other medicines and took only Cangzhu (Atractodis Rhizoma) for three months until the disease cured. Since then, I continued taking it for several years without vomiting or retching, with a broad chest and diaphragm, normal digestion of drinks and phlegm, sweating all over the body in summer keeping me cool, and drinks flowing downward normally. Previously, fluid soaking the Liver caused frequent dizziness and blurred vision; afterwards, I could read small print under lamplight, all thanks to Cangzhu. I initially used Maoshan Cangzhu, but after half a year, I used only the very pungent and drying variety, peeled without soaking, which was very potent yet naturally non-drying. Shanzhi San uses only Gardeniae Fructus, dried and powdered, taken with boiling water. Thus, one knows that sitting for long periods should not involve leaning to one side; occasionally moving the body is also a method of regulation."
Erchen Tang plus Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) Decoction (Clearing Method)
