Spontaneous sweating syndrome includes cases caused by wind damaging the Defensive Qi (Wei Qi), heat transmitting inward, summerheat, and cold causing cold sweat. The treatments are detailed in their respective sections. However, in wind, fire, summerheat, and heat syndromes, excessive spontaneous sweating may lead to Yang collapse (Wang Yang); thus, one must still protect the Original Qi (Yuan Qi), especially in deficiency-cold constitutions. Therefore, Ginseng Radix (Renshen) and Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu) are sacred herbs for arresting sweating. If accompanied by cold, add Aconite Lateral Root Preparata (Fuzi). If mild prescriptions fail, heavy doses should be used; if still ineffective, use astringents such as Dragon Teeth (Longchi), Oyster Shell (Muli), and Schisandra Fruit (Bei Wuweiizi) to assist. Alternatively, combine with Ren Shen Yang Rong Tang. This is because tonification removes weakness, and astringency prevents collapse, which is the natural principle. Regarding night sweats, they occur when pathogenic factors lodge in the Shaoyang channel during Cold Damage syndromes; otherwise, they all belong to Yin deficiency. The ancient formula Dang Gui Liu Huang Tang is too cooling and unsuitable for those with Yin deficiency, as it further damages Yang after Yin is already deficient, causing harm. Instead, use Bazhen Tang added with Astragalus Membranaceus Root (Huangqi), Ophiopogon Japonicus Tuber (Maidong), and Schisandra Fruit (Wuweizi). The formula contains Ginseng Radix (Renshen) and Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome (Baizhu), as abundant Qi generates Yin.

The Classic states: Excess Yin leads to Dian syndrome (Manic-Depressive Psychosis), excess Yang leads to Kuang syndrome (Psychotic Mania). Epilepsy (Xian syndrome) results from phlegm-saliva accumulating in the meridians. Dian syndrome presents as dementia-like behavior, laughing or crying intermittently, resembling drunkenness or dreaming, disordered speech, and ignorance of cleanliness or filth. It often arises from unfulfilled high aspirations and is primarily treated with An Shen Ding Zhi Wan. Kuang syndrome manifests as violent aggression, cursing without regard for kinship, climbing heights to sing, discarding clothes to run, and jumping over walls or roofs. This is caused by the aggregation of phlegm-fire or triggered by Yangming channel heat from Cold Damage. For phlegm-fire, Sheng Tie Luo Yin and Gun Tan Wan are used; for Cold Damage heat, Da Cheng Qi Tang is used to purge. Epilepsy attacks suddenly, causing dizziness, falling, loss of consciousness, convulsions, deviated eyes, twisted mouth, profuse salivation, and animal-like cries. Physicians classify these sounds into five organs: dog barking corresponds to Lung, sheep bleating to Liver, horse neighing to Heart, cow roaring to Spleen, and pig squealing to Kidney. Although the organs differ, the pathology is phlegm-saliva, treated with Ding Xian Wan. After recovery, He Che Wan is used to eradicate the root cause. These three syndromes respond well to frequent treatment; seeking eccentric remedies would be far off the mark.
