(The meridian starts at the Guanzhong point and ends at the Ermen point.)
The Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian originates from the tip of the ring finger, ascends between the index and ring fingers, follows the dorsal aspect of the wrist, emerges between the two bones of the forearm, ascends through the elbow, follows the lateral aspect of the shoulder, crosses posterior to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, enters the Supraclavicular Fossa (Quepen), spreads in the Chest Center (Danzhong), disperses and connects with the Pericardium, descends through the diaphragm, and successively belongs to the Upper, Middle, and Lower Jiao (Triple Burner). Its branch arises from the Danzhong, ascends out of the Quepen, goes up the neck, connects behind the ear, ascends straight to the upper angle of the ear, then curves downward to the cheek reaching the infraorbital region. Another branch enters the ear from behind it, exits anterior to the ear, passes anterior to the Shangguan point (Kerenren), crosses the cheek, and reaches the outer canthus. When this meridian is affected, disorders such as deafness, muffled hearing (Hunhun), pharyngeal swelling, and throat obstruction occur. This meridian governs diseases arising from Qi, manifesting as sweating, pain in the outer canthus, cheek swelling, pain in the area behind the ear, shoulder, elbow, and lateral arm, and dysfunction of the ring and little fingers. For these conditions, excess is treated by reducing, deficiency by tonifying, heat by rapid needling, cold by retaining the needle, sinking pulse by moxibustion, and neither excess nor deficiency by selecting points on the meridian itself. Excess is indicated when the Renying pulse is one times larger than the Cunkou pulse; deficiency is indicated when the Renying pulse is smaller than the Cunkou pulse.
The Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian receives transmission from the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, originating at the Guanzhong point at the tip of the fourth finger (ring finger), ascending through the Liye men (Yemen) and Zhongzhu points, following the Yangchi point on the dorsal wrist, emerging between the two forearm bones, passing through Waiguan, Zhigou, Huizong, Sanyangluo, and Sidu points to reach the Tianjing point. From Tianjing, it ascends along the lateral arm, passing Qinglengyuan and Xiaoluo points, running medial to the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian and lateral to the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian, ascending to the shoulder along the lateral arm, converging at Jianliao and Tianliao points, crossing posterior to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian, passing Bingfeng and Jianjing points, descending into the Quepen, then intersecting with the Upper Jiao at Danzhong via the lateral aspect of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian, spreading and connecting around the Pericardium, descending through the diaphragm to connect with the Bladder, thereby regulating the Lower Jiao, and attaching to the right kidney to terminate. Its branch arises from Danzhong, ascends out of the Quepen, goes up the neck, passes Dazhui, follows Tianyou, ascends behind the ear, passes Yifeng, Hui Mai, and Luxi, ascends straight to the upper angle of the ear reaching Jiaosun, passes Xuanli and Hanyan, as well as Yangbai and Jingming, curves through the ear-cheek region to the infraorbital area, converging at the zygomatic region. Another branch enters the ear from the Yifeng point behind the ear, passes Tinggong, goes through Ermen and Heliao, exits to reach the outer canthus, converges at Tongziliao, follows Sizhukong, and intersects with the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian.
