The Pericardium Channel originates at Tianchi (PC1), located one cun posterior to the nipple and three cun below the axilla; Tianquan (PC2) is two cun below the axillary fold; Quze (PC3) is in the center of the depression at the cubital crease when the elbow is flexed; Ximen (PC4) is five cun proximal to the wrist crease; Jianshi (PC5) is measured three cun proximal to the wrist crease; Neiguan (PC6) is two cun proximal to the wrist crease; Daling (PC7) is between the two tendons at the posterior aspect of the palm; Laogong (PC8) is located by flexing the middle and ring fingers; Zhongchong (PC9) is at the tip of the middle finger.
Heat in the palm occurs because the Qi of the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Channel travels through the palm. Spasm and stiffness of the arm and elbow, swelling of the axilla, and distension and fullness in the chest and hypochondrium are all conditions occurring in areas traversed by the channel. Excessive pulsation (Da Dong) indicates that the Heart, which should be quiet, is instead agitated; this is a disease of the Zang organ itself. Red face and yellow eyes indicate diseases of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Channel, as the Pericardium Collateral connects with it. Uncontrollable laughter occurs because the Heart corresponds to laughter in vocalizations; this is a disease of the Zang organ itself. Diseases generated by the vessels occur because the Heart governs the blood vessels. Vexation, heart pain, and heat in the palms (palm heat) are diseases of the Zang organ itself.
The above channel diseases are mostly similar to those of the Heart Channel because the channels are anatomically close. Regarding Zang organ diseases, they are not recorded for the Heart Channel but are recorded for the Pericardium Collateral, because the Heart cannot directly receive pathogenic factors; any pathology is borne by the Minister Fire within the Pericardium Collateral. The *Neijing* divides the Heart and the Heart Master into two separate channels, while Materia Medica texts combine them for syndrome differentiation and treatment. Following the *Neijing*, we still distinguish them into two channels. Content from the Materia Medica is attached under the Heart Master section because the root diseases belong to the Heart Master, while the branch diseases of both channels are roughly identical, and their treatment methods are indistinguishable.
The Heart stores the Shen (Spirit) and belongs to Sovereign Fire. The Pericardium Collateral belongs to Minister Fire, acts on behalf of the Sovereign to execute commands, and governs Blood, Speech, Sweat, and Laughter.
Root Diseases (Diseases of the Pericardium): Various febrile diseases causing dizziness and blurred vision (Heart governs Fire; excessive Fire causes dizziness and tendon stiffness). Fright, confusion, delirium, and mental agitation (Heart stores Shen; Heart disease leads to Shen disorder). Crying, laughing, and cursing (similar to "uncontrollable laughter" mentioned in channel descriptions). Palpitations (i.e., Heart Fire disease). Amnesia (Heart stores Shen). Spontaneous sweating (Heart governs sweat). Various pains, itching, sores, and ulcers (Heart governs Blood; Heat damages Blood).
Branch Diseases (Channel Diseases): Muscle fever (Heat in the Blood level). Aversion to cold and shivering (Extreme Heat mimicking Cold). Inability to speak due to tongue stiffness (Heart governs Speech). Red face, yellow eyes, vexation, heat sensation, chest and hypochondriac fullness, and pain radiating to the lower back, shoulders, scapulae, elbows, and arms (Same as channel diseases).
