These acupoints are where the Qi of the Du Meridian (Governor Vessel) emerges. The needle is inserted to a depth of 8 fen, retained for three respiration cycles (hu), and five exhalations (xi) are used for the reducing method; moxibustion can be applied from seven moxa cones (zhuang) up to forty-nine moxa cones (Qi Qi Zhuang).
Changqiang (Du-1), also known as Qi Zhi Yin, is a divergent branch of the Du Meridian (Governor Vessel), located at the end of the spine, where the Qi of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian knots together. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, and the procedure ends when withdrawal causes severe pain.
This point should be taken with the patient prone on the ground. Moxibustion can be performed daily from thirty to two hundred moxa cones.
On the midline of the right back, extending straight down from Mingmen (Du-4) along the spine to the end of the coccyx, there are three acupoints.
Dazhu (BL-11), bilateral, located in the depressions on both sides of the spinous process of the first thoracic vertebra below the nape, each 1.5 cun from the midline, it is the meeting point of the Hand-Taiyang and Foot-Taiyang meridians. The needle is inserted to a depth of 5 fen, and seven moxa cones may be applied.
Fengmen (BL-12), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the second thoracic vertebra, each 1.5 cun from the midline, it is the meeting point of the Du Meridian (Governor Vessel) and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. The needle is inserted to a depth of 5 fen, retained for seven respiration cycles, and three moxa cones are applied.
Feishu (BL-13), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra, each 1.5 cun from the midline, it is where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian emerges. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, retained for seven respiration cycles, and one hundred moxa cones are applied.
Jueyinshu (BL-14), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the fourth thoracic vertebra, each 1.5 cun from the midline. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, and seven moxa cones are applied.
Xinshu (BL-15), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the fifth thoracic vertebra, each 1.5 cun from the spinal midline. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, retained for seven respiration cycles; moxibustion is prohibited.

The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, retained for ten respiration cycles, and three moxa cones are applied.
Baihuan Shu (BL-30), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the twenty-first thoracic vertebra, each 1.5 cun from the midline, it is where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian emerges. The method of taking this point is the same as for lumbar points: the patient should arch their waist and lie prone, supporting their forehead heavily with both hands, relaxing completely so the skin slackens, then locate the point. The needle is inserted to a depth of 5 fen; upon obtaining Deqi (arrival of Qi), reduce first, and if reduction is excessive, supplement; moxibustion is not suitable.
The second row on the right back, running straight down alongside the spine at a distance of 1.5 cun from the midline, contains thirty-four acupoints.
Shangliao (BL-31), bilateral, located in the depressions alongside the spine in the first sacral foramen, it is the collateral connection of the Foot-Taiyang and Foot-Shaoyang meridians. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, and seven moxa cones may be applied.
Ciliao (BL-32), bilateral, located in the depressions alongside the spine in the second sacral foramen. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, and seven moxa cones may be applied. (The *Jia Yi Jing* states: insert to a depth of 3 fen, retain for seven respiration cycles, apply five moxa cones.)
Zhongliao (BL-33), bilateral, located in the depressions alongside the spine in the third sacral foramen, it is the meeting place where the Qi of the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian knots. The needle is inserted to a depth of 2 fen, retained for ten respiration cycles, and three moxa cones may be applied. (The *Jia Yi Jing* states: insert to a depth of 2 cun, retain for ten respiration cycles.)
Xialiao (BL-34), bilateral, located in the depressions alongside the spine in the fourth sacral foramen, it is the meeting place where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian, Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian knots. The needle is inserted to a depth of 2 fen, retained for ten respiration cycles, and three moxa cones are applied.
Huiyang (BL-35), bilateral, located on both sides of the tailbone between the yin and wei bones, it is where the Qi of the Du Meridian (Governor Vessel) emerges. The needle is inserted to a depth of 8 fen, and five moxa cones may be applied.
The second row on the right back, slanting down from the acetabulum alongside the spine through four bone spaces, comprises eight acupoints, which the *Nei Jing* refers to as the Ba Liao (Eight Holes) acupoints. These are the two acupoints on both sides of the coccyx.
Fufen (BL-41), bilateral, located on both sides of the inner aspect of the neck below the spinous process of the second thoracic vertebra, each 3 cun from the midline, belonging to the Hand-Taiyang and Foot-Taiyang meridians; the patient should sit upright to take this point. The needle is inserted to a depth of 3 fen, and five moxa cones may be applied.
Pohu (BL-42), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the third thoracic vertebra, each 3 cun from the midline; the patient should sit upright to take this point, it is where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian emerges. The needle is inserted to a depth of 5 fen, should be retained for a long time, and moxibustion can range from seven to one hundred moxa cones.
Gaohuangshu (BL-43), bilateral, located on both sides of the spinous process of the fourth thoracic vertebra, each 3 cun from the midline. Another method: have the patient sit upright with the spine erect, extend both arms, and rest them on the knees in front, keeping the body straight, with the thumbs aligned with the knee caps. Support the elbows with an object to prevent arm movement. Palpate from the upper angle of the scapula down to the head of the bone; the area should be between the fourth ribs, moxa here. From the inner side of the scapula, move away from the scapula by the width of a side finger, lift the arm to find the empty space between the tendons; pressing here should cause a sensation of traction into the shoulder. Apply moxibustion to one spot between the two scapulae for up to one hundred moxa cones, or up to three hundred. One should feel a gurgling sound below, like flowing water, and there should be some discharge. If there is phlegm disease, it will disperse everywhere. If the patient is too weak to sit upright, have them lie on their side, flex the upper arm forward, locate the point, and apply moxibustion. Alternatively, use the right hand to press from the shoulder down to where the fingers cannot reach; this is the point. The left side is treated similarly, using the previous method for moxibustion. If sitting upright is impossible, extend both arms and have someone press the two scapulae apart to separate them. Otherwise, the scapulae will cover the point, and moxibustion will be ineffective. This point treats all diseases.

Press heavily with the hand; if the patient says "sour/numb," it is the correct point. The needle is inserted to a depth of 6 fen, retained for three respiration cycles, and eleven moxa cones may be applied.
Ge Guan (BL-48), bilateral, located in the depressions on both sides of the spinous process of the seventh thoracic vertebra, each 3 cun from the midline; the patient should sit upright to take this point, it is where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian emerges. The needle is inserted to a depth of 2 fen, and five moxa cones may be applied.
