[From *Jisheng Fang*] Treatment for arrowheads embedded in bone that cannot be extracted.
Crotonis Fructus (Shelled, slightly roasted) and Dung Beetle (Scarabaeus sacer) are ground together evenly and applied to the injured area. After a short while, the pain subsides and slight itching occurs; endure it. When the itching becomes unbearable, shake the arrowhead, and it will be extracted immediately.
(The *Experiential Formula* is identical.)
[From Zhang Jiegu] Formula for extracting arrowheads.
Dung Beetle (any quantity, use whole) and Moschus (Musk).
Grind the above into an extremely fine powder, move the arrowhead slightly, and sprinkle the medicine into the wound.
[From Luo Tianyi] Yongtie Gao (Sudden-Iron Ointment) is used to extract arrowheads and all types of needles embedded in flesh, curing all such cases.
Mouse Head (one, or boiled in oil), Mole Cricket (49 pieces), Mylabris (1 liang), Earth-burrowing Insect (10 pieces), Crotonis Fructus, Maggots from Horse Flesh (roasted dry), Realgar (Xinshi), Maggots from Soy Sauce Paste (roasted dry), Prunella Vulgaris (Xiakucao), Sand, Magnetite, Minium (Huangdan), Cortex Lycii (Digupi), Sappan Wood (Sumu), and Dung Beetle (each 1 liang), Naphtha (3 liang), and Ash Juice from Mugwort Stalks (3 sheng).
First, boil naphtha and ash juice with gentle and strong fire until they form an ointment. Then add the powders of Digupi and others, mix evenly, and store in a porcelain vessel. For use, apply the medicine according to the size of the wound condition. After some time, the arrowhead will naturally emerge.
Wanquan Shenyang Dan is used to extract arrowheads, fish bones, needles, wheat awns, etc., treating them regardless of depth or distance.
Plants of the Solanaceae family (specifically the seedlings of Hyoscyamus niger/Tianxianzi) should be sought on the day before the Dragon Boat Festival while observing silence. Upon finding one, select a specimen with intact roots, branches, leaves, and fruits. Say aloud: "Sir, you are here." Then, encircle the plant with wood ash starting from the southeast, and pry up the surrounding soil with a wooden rake. On the morning of the Dragon Boat Festival before sunrise, maintain silence as before. Use a wooden lever to dig once, retrieve the plant, wash it with water, and ensure no women or dogs see it. Pound it into a paste in a stone mortar in a clean room. Form pills the size of marbles, coat them with Minium, seal in paper bags, and hang in a high place to dry in the shade. If an arrowhead is embedded and cannot be removed, place one pill of this medicine in a red silk bag inside the umbilicus, wrap the abdomen with cotton cloth, and tie securely. First, apply Ivory Powder to the wound, then apply this medicine. If the wound has closed, scrape it open slightly with a knife, apply Ivory Powder, and the arrowhead will follow. This was effective when used by troops in the Shaanxi Provincial Administration.
[From *Jingyao*] Sun Simiao's formula for arrowheads stuck in the throat, chest/diaphragm, or needles that cannot be extracted. Crush mole crickets to extract juice, drip it onto the area three to five times, and the arrowhead will naturally exit.
[From *Bencao*] Treatment for non-extractable arrowheads. Crush Trichosanthis Radix (Gualougen), apply to the wound, change three times daily, and the arrowhead will naturally exit.
[From *Shiyi Defang*] Li Bo's treatment for non-extractable arrowheads and harmful splinters. Chew the medication thoroughly and apply it mixed with Pseudostellariae Radix (Heshen) to the affected area.
[From Yao Sengyuan] There are two types of poisoned arrows. The Yi people in Jiaozhou and Guangzhou use scorched copper for arrows; upon skin penetration, pus boils and rots, causing death. If hit, drinking urine and applying it externally is effective, but this method is considered the best. Another type uses Woyao (Aconitum alkaloid poison) coated on the arrowhead; victims also suffer greatly. If struck in a broad area, survival is possible, but if near the abdomen, urgent treatment is required. The current Ge Shi Fang treats Woyao poisoning. (Ge Shi Fang: Uses Indigo Naturalis juice, soybeans, pig blood, and sheep blood to detoxify.)
