According to the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon), there are two methods for acupuncture and moxibustion in treating axillary swelling:
The first involves the Gallbladder Meridian. The classic states: "The diseases generated by the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian include swelling and pain in the supraclavicular fossa and swelling in the axilla."
The second involves the Heart Meridian (specifically, the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin). The classic states: "When the Pericardium Meridian of Hand-Jueyin is disturbed, it causes heat in the palm and axillary swelling. Treatment should be based on observing deficiency, excess, cold, heat, and sinking pulse conditions, applying tonification, sedation, rapid insertion, or retained moxibustion accordingly."
[Dan] Divine Efficacy Prescription for Axillary Odor
Lithargyrum (1 liang) Alum (7 qian) Sand (a small amount) Musk (a small amount)
Grind the above into a fine powder. First wash with a decoction of Sophora flavescens root bark (Zaojiao), then apply the powder.
Another Prescription
Chrysocolla Lithargyrum Cinnabar Alum Sand Bai Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii Preparata)
Apply as described above.
[Bencao] Treatment for Axillary Odor. Use Ye Ming Sha (Stool of Oriental Hornet), quantity unrestricted, ground into powder, mixed with Fermented Soybean Juice (Douchi Zhi) for topical application; effect is immediate.
Another Prescription Select high-quality Chrysocolla, quantity unrestricted, mix with Rice Vinegar to form a paste. First clean the axilla thoroughly, sprinkle Calomel (Qing Fen) over the area, then apply the aforementioned paste; effect is immediate.
[Jing] Treatment for Fox Odor (Axillary Odor). Apply fresh Ginger to the axilla to eradicate the root cause.
[Sanyin Fang] Treatment for Fox Odor. Take one large spider. Mix yellow clay with a small amount of Red Halloysite (Chishi Zhi), pound and sieve until extremely fine. Add a little salt, knead into a nest shape, enclose the spider inside. Fire-roast until red-hot. Allow to cool, open, and grind the spider into a fine powder. Just before bedtime, add one zi (approx. 0.5-1g) of Calomel, mix with strong vinegar to form a paste, and apply to the axilla. The next day during defecation, black tarry stool will inevitably be discharged, which will be foul-smelling. Dispose of it in a remote place and bury it to prevent transmission to others.
[Shichuan Fang] Treatment for Axillary Odor. First shave off all axillary hair cleanly. Use Bai Ding Fen (Lead Carbonate/White Lead), mix with water, and apply to the affected area. After six or seven days, check the axilla the next morning for a black spot, size of a needle hole. Mark this point with a pen. Immediately apply seven moxa cones (Ai Zhu) to this spot. If chest pain ensues after moxibustion, administer the following prescription to induce purgation:
Qing Mu Xiang (Radix Aucklandiae) Areca Seed (Bing Lang) Clove (Ding Xiang) Sandalwood (Tan Xiang) Musk (She Xiang) Rhubarb (Da Huang)
Decoct and take orally. Stop when purgation occurs.
