Treats Spleen-Stomach Damp-Cold (Pi Wei Shi Han), reduced food intake, chronic diarrhea, and undigested food in stool.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) [4 liang], Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens/Secundum contextum dried/fried, here likely Zingiberis Rhizoma) [2 liang], Ji Nei Jin (Galli Gigerii Endothelium Corneum) [2 liang], Shu Zao Rou (Jujubae Fructus Pulpa, cooked) [0.5 jin].
The above four herbs: Bai Zhu and Ji Nei Jin must be used raw. Each herb is separately ground into fine powder and then roasted (roasting after grinding ensures evenness). Then, Gan Jiang is ground into powder, mixed with Zao Rou, and pounded together into a paste to form small cakes. These are dried over charcoal fire. Taken on an empty stomach as a snack, chewed thoroughly and swallowed. I once prepared this formula for a friend; one course of medication resulted in recovery for several individuals. Subsequent trials of this formula have consistently proven effective.
A woman, approximately thirty years old, suffered from diarrhea for several months. All other anti-diarrheal medications were ineffective. Her pulse was not cold, nor did she present with undigested food in the stool. Therefore, only Bai Zhu and Zao Rou were used, prepared into cakes according to the method, which cured her. This condition did not require Ji Nei Jin because, although Ji Nei Jin aids digestion in the Spleen and Stomach, it is generally unsuitable for patients with diarrhea.

Letter from Zhang XX of Qing County, Zhili:
My younger sister, XX, over forty years old, has always been thin and weak. She has long suffered from Spleen-Stomach Damp-Cold, occasional pain in the epigastrium, reduced appetite, frequent diarrhea, and undigested food in the stool. Following the original prescription of Yi Pi Bing, I had one dose prepared for her, which cured her immediately. For follow-up care, she took another dose, permanently eliminating the root cause of the disease.
Treats chronic diarrhea that does not cease, accompanied by deficiency of both Qi and Blood, emaciation, and symptoms approaching Lao Zhai (consumptive disease/tuberculosis).
Yu Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, fried) [1 liang], Sheng Shan Yao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, raw) [1 liang], Long Yan Rou (Longan Aril) [1 liang].
If urination is difficult, add Jiao Mu (Zanthoxyli Semen, fried and crushed) [3 qian].
Long Yan Rou is sweet in taste and tonifies the Spleen; its aromatic qi awakens the Spleen. It is indeed a key herb for the Spleen organ. Furthermore, the Heart is the Mother of the Spleen. Long Yan Rou enters the Heart due to its red color and can tonify the Heart, allowing the Mother organ to flourish and thereby nourish the Child organ. In my treatment of Xin Xu Zheng Chong (Heart Deficiency Palpitations), I often advise patients to purchase about one jin of Long Yan Rou, steam it in a rice steamer until cooked, and consume it slowly. This yields significant effects, providing clear evidence of its ability to tonify the Heart. Additionally, hematochezia (blood in stool) is often caused by Spleen Deficiency failing to control blood; it can also be cured by taking Long Yan Rou alone, which is further evidence of its Spleen-tonifying properties.
A woman, approximately forty years old. Initially, due to heat in the Heart and stagnation of Qi, physicians administered formulas to clear fire and regulate Qi, resulting in persistent diarrhea. Other physicians were consulted, who administered warming and tonifying formulas. Initially, symptoms slightly improved, but with prolonged use, diarrhea persisted. The patient had diarrhea four to five times a day for half a year, deemed untreatable. Later, I examined her. Although the pulse was Ru Ruo (soft and weak), there was no Xuan Shuo (wiry and rapid) aspect, indicating it was still treatable. However, due to prolonged diarrhea and physical weakness, she had profuse spontaneous sweating, palpitations, and reduced appetite. After much deliberation, I prescribed this formula to tonify the Spleen while simultaneously tonifying the Heart and Kidney. After a few doses, diarrhea ceased, but sweating increased. Consequently, I added Long Gu (Fossilia Ossis Mastodi et Fossilia Ossis Cruris) and Mu Li (Concha Ostreae) [6 qian each, uncalcined] to the formula. After two doses, sweating stopped, but generalized edema developed. Previously, during diarrhea, urine output was scanty; after diarrhea ceased, urine remained scanty. With no outlet for water-dampness below, it evaporated as sweat; when sweating stopped, it manifested as edema. This required promoting diuresis to provide an outlet for water. However, since she usually felt extreme cold at the waist, cooling diuretic herbs were strictly contraindicated. Thus, using this base formula, I added Jiao Mu [3 qian]. Ten consecutive doses resulted in complete recovery.
