Treats swelling and pain in the hypochondrium.
*Toosendan Fructus* (Chuanlianzi) (5 qian, crushed), *Resina Draconis* (Ruxiang) raw and clarified (4 qian), *Resina Myrrhae* (Moyao) raw and clarified (4 qian), *Rhizoma Sparganii* (Sanleng) (3 qian), *Rhizoma Curcumae Zedoariae* (Ezhu) (3 qian), *Radix Glycyrrhizae Uralensis* (Gancao) (1 qian).
Liu Hejian created Jinlingzi San (Jinlingzi Powder, made from the seeds of *Toosendan Fructus*), mixing equal parts of Jinlingzi and *Rhizoma Corydalis* (Yanhusuo), grinding them into powder for oral administration to treat pain in the heart, abdomen, and hypochondrium. It is particularly effective when the etiology is due to heat.
Indeed, *Toosendan Fructus* can guide the fire of the Pericardium and the Ministerial Fire residing in the Liver and Gallbladder downward, assisted by *Rhizoma Corydalis* to unblock Qi and Blood, thus stopping the pain naturally. When I used this formula, although many cases were effective, there were occasional failures. Later, I devised this new formula, which proved effective immediately in every case. This is because while Jinlingzi combined with Yanhusuo can open stagnation in the Qi aspect, it essentially cannot transform Qi. The term "transforming Qi" refers to resolving Qi stagnation without destructive breaking or purging, allowing it to dissolve invisibly; Resina Draconis and Resina Myrrhae in the formula serve this purpose. Yanhusuo was removed and replaced with Sanleng and Ezhu because Yanhusuo's nature is too harsh, and its breaking force tends to target the Lower Jiao, whereas Sanleng and Ezhu have a milder nature and are better at regulating the Liver. Gancao is used to prevent the slight toxicity of Toosendan Fructus. This formula is not only highly effective for hypochondriac pain but also very effective for any pain in the heart and abdomen that is not caused by cold.

A letter from Li XX of Yanshan, Zhili:
In mid-winter, my brother Liu XX suffered from swelling and pain in the left hypochondrium. Various treatments failed. He consulted me for a prescription. I prescribed Huoluo Xiaoling Dan (Living Network Efficacy Lingering Pill Decoction), but it yielded no response. Therefore, he invited me to examine him. The pulse was weak and faint in other positions, but deep and forceful at the Left Guan position. I treated him with Jinling Xiegan Tang (Jinling Draining Liver Decoction), adding several qian of *Radix Angelicae Sinensis* (Danggui). After one dose, on the next day, he passed down some green, sticky matter, and he recovered instantly. Since this decoction is originally noted for treating swelling and pain in the hypochondrium, this confirms that each physician's prescribed formulas have their specific indications; when the formula matches the disease, the efficacy is miraculous.
