[Prescription Verse] Zhongwan Ju (Abscess at the Zhongwan Point) arises from Stomach Fire, with a dull pain four cun above the umbilicus; it is hard and diffusely swollen without redness or heat, accompanied by loss of appetite, vomiting, retching, and internal attack by toxin.
[Annotation] This condition is also known as Wei Ju (Stomach Abscess). It develops below the heart and chest, four cun above the umbilicus, on the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) at the Zhongwan point (CV12). After a long duration of dull pain, an abscess forms outwardly; it is hard and diffusely swollen, with skin color showing no redness or heat. It results from excessive consumption of roasted and fried foods, leading to the formation of fire-toxin in the Stomach organ. A full pulse at the Yingchang point (ST9) indicates that the toxin is attacking inward; vomiting, inability to eat, coughing up purulent sputum are adverse signs. Initially, Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin (Immortal Life-Protecting Decoction) should be taken. If the color is purple and hard, Shan Jia Nei Xiao San (Pangolin Internal Dissipation Powder) should be taken. When pus is about to form, both internal and external treatments follow the guidelines for Tumors and Ulcers sections. If pus formation is delayed, or if the sore does not burn or hurt, urgently apply moxa cones separated by slices of single-clove garlic onto the affected area to warm and restore Yang.
Prescription: Shan Jia Nei Xiao San (Pangolin Internal Dissipation Powder)
Composition: Pangolin scales (stir-fried, three large pieces), Angelica sinensis tail (Dangguiwei), Rhubarb (Dahuang), Licorice root tips (Gancao jie) (each 3 qian), Earthy Momordica seed (Tumubie), Black Morning Glory seed (Hei Qianniu), Silkworm (Jiangcan) (stir-fried, each 1 qian).
Decoct one zhong of rice wine and one zhong of water until eight parts remain. Take on an empty stomach; decoct the dregs again and take them. Once bowel movements occur three to four times, then consume thin porridge and bland food for conditioning.
[Prescription Verse] Shan Jia Nei Xiao dissipates fire-toxin knots; for Zhongwan Ju with purple color, hardness, and pain, use Dangguiwei, Dahuang, Jiangcan, and Gancao jie, suitable with Mumie, Qianniu, and wine.
Another Prescription: Xian Fang Huo Ming Yin (see section on Tumors)
[Prescription Verse] Xia Yong (Fright Abscess) is formed by constrained fire due to Seven Emotions; at three cun above the umbilicus, it appears slightly red like millet grains; sudden swelling, burning pain, and ulceration within fourteen days; sunken apex, black color, and delayed ulceration are ominous.
[Annotation] This condition is formed by constrained fire coagulating due to the Seven Emotions. It arises three cun above the umbilicus, belonging to the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) at the Jianli point (CV11). Initially, it resembles a millet grain, with simultaneous itching and pain; the swelling spreads rapidly, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, and in severe cases, vomiting, retching, and pulling pain around the umbilicus. The initial swelling is slightly red, with a pointed apex and constricted base; gradually turning reddish, with intermittent pain and cessation. Ulceration with pus discharge after fourteen days is favorable. If the apex is sunken and purple-black, the base is diffusely swollen, the face is red with intense thirst, and the pulse is floating, rapid, and scattered/large, these are adverse signs. Internal treatment refers to You Yong (Deep Abscess); external treatment follows the guidelines for Tumors and Ulcers sections.
