[Note] [1] Whenever there is disease in the Zang-Fu organs, acupuncture can be applied, as stated in the *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues): "For diseases of the five Zang and six Fu organs, one should select their Yuan-Source points."
[2] Since each meridian has specific diseases it governs, one must follow the Exterior-Interior relationship of each meridian, first treating the Master point (Yuan-Source) and then the Guest point (Luo-Connecting), needling both.
[3] The Master point refers to the Yuan-Source point, and the Guest point refers to the Luo-Connecting point.
[4] For example, if the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Taiyuan, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Large Intestine Meridian, which is Pianli;
If the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Hegu, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its interior partner, the Lung Meridian, which is Lieque;
If the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Taibai, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Stomach Meridian, which is Fenglong;
If the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Chongyang, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its interior partner, the Spleen Meridian, which is Gongsun;
If the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Shenmen, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Small Intestine Meridian, which is Zhengzheng;
If the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Wanggu, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its interior partner, the Heart Meridian, which is Tongli;
If the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Taixi, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Bladder Meridian, which is Feiyang;
If the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Jinggu, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its interior partner, the Kidney Meridian, which is Dazhong;
If the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Yangchi, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Pericardium Meridian, which is Neiguan;
If the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Dalíng, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Sanjiao Meridian, which is Waiguan;
If the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Qiuxu, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its interior partner, the Liver Meridian, which is Ligou;
If the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian has disease, one may needle the Yuan-Source point of this meridian, which is Taichong, and then needle the Luo-Connecting point of its exterior partner, the Gallbladder Meridian, which is Guangming.
[5] This is the method of needling based on the Exterior-Interior relationship, where the Yuan-Source points are the Masters for treating diseases of the twelve meridians, and the Luo-Connecting points are the Guests.
