9. Wuse dysentery (Dysentery with five-colored stools) and Xiuxi dysentery (Intermittent dysentery) both injure the Zang organs. This is due to the premature use of astringent drugs, or because damp-heat and stagnation were not fully cleared by purgation, leading to accumulation within the body. If tonification yields no response and the pulse is forceful, even if the disease has persisted for a long time, purgation should still be employed. Other treatment methods are the same as those for various types of dysentery.
[Annotation] Wuse dysentery and Xiuxi dysentery are caused either by the premature use of astringent medicines or by incomplete clearance of damp-heat and stagnation via purgation, which then accumulate in the intestines and stomach, injuring the Qi of the Zang organs. If all tonifying and nourishing medicines prove ineffective, it can be deduced that initially, either astringents were used too early or purgation was incomplete. If the pulse is found to be forceful upon diagnosis, purgation should still be applied despite the prolonged duration of the disease. The remaining treatment methods are identical to those for other dysenteries.
1. Yellowing of the face, eyes, and body accompanied by a desire to lie quietly, along with turbid urine, indicates that Jaundice (Huangdan) has already formed. A sensation of hunger after eating, difficulty in reaching fullness, and irritability or dizziness when full suggest the impending onset of Weijian (Stomach Jaundice), also known as Gujian (Grain Jaundice) or Jiujian (Wine Jaundice). Nülaodian (Jaundice from Sexual Exhaustion) presents with blackening of the forehead and urgency in the lower abdomen, with free urination; one must carefully examine whether this is generated by Blood Stasis (Yuxue). Huanghan (Yellow Sweat) presents with slight edema and is caused by Damp-Heat. Yinhuang (Yin-type Jaundice) is characterized by heavy pain in the body and cold extremities like ice.
[Annotation] Yellowing of the face, eyes, and body, a preference for lying still, and yellow, turbid urine indicate that Jaundice has already formed. If there is a sensation of hunger after eating, an inability to eat until full, and irritability or dizziness upon fullness, this suggests the impending onset of Weijian. Weijian is synonymous with Gujian. If yellow discoloration is already present, the Jian disease has manifested. This arises from Damp-Heat in the stomach, often due to overeating after extreme hunger. Jiujian arises from excessive alcohol consumption. Nülaodian manifests as jaundice with blackening of the forehead and urgency in the lower abdomen, with free urination; it results from severe fatigue, high heat, and sexual intercourse. Jaundice caused by Blood Stasis also presents with urgency in the lower abdomen and free urination, but without blackening of the forehead. Details are found in the Shanghan Lun section. Huanghan involves yellow sweat that stains clothing and slight swelling of the face and eyes; it results from pre-existing Damp-Heat combined with bathing in water while sweating. All these conditions are caused by Damp-Heat, except for Yinhuang, which belongs to Cold-Damp. Yinhuang is characterized by heaviness and pain in the body, and cold extremities like ice; details are found in the Shanghan Lun section.
