3. Internal cataracts arise from the transformation of "Five Winds" caused by head wind (headache disorders), manifesting as the cornea or lens appearing white, yellow, or green, and losing luster. Head wind pain radiates to the eyes, causing a lack of tears, with alternating tearing between eyes, creating a sensation akin to sitting in a dark room. The Green Wind syndrome presents with vertigo牵连ating nasal pain, mutual traction at the temples causing eye pain, occasionally accompanied by the appearance of white or red flowers; if these appear alongside green and black flowers, it is termed Black Wind. The Black Wind syndrome does not involve vertigo but leads to gradual dimness. The Yellow Wind syndrome often follows long-standing night blindness (Nyctalopia), where the pupil takes on a golden hue. The Blue Wind syndrome involves slight vertigo without itching or pain. The Blue Flower syndrome manifests as visual blurring when moving the eyeballs.
[Note] Internal cataract diseases often result from transformations induced by five types of wind pathogens originating from head wind. Initially, the pupil area gradually changes color, with a faint opacity visible within the eye, appearing either white, yellow, or green. Although it may resemble an unaffected eye visually, it lacks vitality and brightness. Patients suffering from head wind experience headaches radiating to the eyes without tears upon onset. Affection may occur in the left eye only, the right eye only, starting with the left then moving to the right, or vice versa, alternating unpredictably, resembling sitting in a dark room; this marks the initial stage of head wind damaging the eyes. In Green Wind syndrome, vertigo is associated with traction-like pain connecting the temples and nose, and during eye pain, white or red spots may appear, marking the early stage of Green Wind damaging the eyes. Black Wind syndrome shares symptoms with Green Wind, characterized by the frequent appearance of black spots, marking the early stage of Black Wind damaging the eyes. Black Wind (Wu Feng) is similar to Black Wind but lacks vertigo, presenting instead with dark spots and gradual dimming, marking the early stage of Wu Wind damaging the eyes. Yellow Wind syndrome typically follows chronic night blindness, with the pupil turning golden, marking the early stage of Yellow Wind damaging the eyes. Blue Wind syndrome involves mild vertigo without itching or pain, with rotating blue spots leading to progressive visual obscuration, marking the early stage of Blue Wind damaging the eyes.
Juhua Tongsheng San (Chrysanthemum Unimpeded Powder), Xidao San (Knife-Washing Powder).
4. For sudden-onset Fire Eye (acute conjunctivitis and other external ocular disorders), Juhua Tongsheng San serves as the base formula, modified according to specific external disorder patterns. If Wind pathogen is predominant, add Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), and Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), doubling their dosages. If Heat pathogen is predominant, add Lianhua (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), doubling their dosages. If pain is severe, with excessive membrane formation causing significant ocular damage, add Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), and Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus) to the formula. Additional ingredients include Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix), Muzei (Equiseti Herba), Baijili (Tribuli Fructus), Juemingzi (Cassiae Semen), Chantui (Cicadae Periostracum), and Qingxiangzi (Celosiae Semen).
[Note] Juhua Tongsheng San is formed by adding Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) to Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Unimpeded Powder). Xidao San is created by further adding Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma), Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Manjingzi (Viticis Fructus), and Qingxiangzi (Celosiae Semen) to the aforementioned formula.
