[Prescription Verse] Fengmei Ju (Phoenix Eyebrow Carbuncle) arises at the supraorbital ridges of both eyebrows, presenting as a long, melon-shaped swelling with diffuse redness. It is caused by accumulated heat in the Bladder, Small Intestine, Liver, and Gallbladder meridians. If accompanied by restlessness, vomiting, and anorexia, the prognosis is ominous.

[Annotation] This carbuncle is also known as Meifa Ju. It occurs on the supraorbital ridge, regardless of whether it is on the left or right side, and is attributed to accumulated heat in four meridians: the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian, Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian, Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian, and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. The lesion is elongated like a melon, painful with radiation to the head, causing bilateral eye swelling. It is hard, red, and feels rooted upon palpation. Puncturing within six days to drain pus indicates a favorable outcome; absence of pus suggests danger. If it fails to suppurate after fourteen days, especially when accompanied by restlessness, vomiting, and anorexia, the prognosis is poor. Initially, Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Life Elixir) should be administered, followed by Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Supporting Interior and Penetrating Pus Decoction). Rapid suppuration is ideal; delay may lead to erosion of the eyes and damage to vision. For other internal and external treatments, refer to the Chapter on Ulcerative Sores and Carbuncles.

[Prescriptions] Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Life Elixir) (see Chapter on Swollen Sores)
Tuoli Tou Nong Tang (Supporting Interior and Penetrating Pus Decoction) (see Head Submerged Brain Carbuncle)

[Prescription Verse] Xinjian Ju (Heart Center Carbuncle) arises at the Yintang point. Hard swelling indicates a carbuncle (Ju), while puffy swelling indicates a sore (Yang). Wind-heat stagnation in the Du Meridian causes the root to be hard and the pain to be numb; it should be guarded against as a Ding (Ding Carbuncle).

[Annotation] This condition arises between the two eyebrows, and the carbuncle is named Yintang Ju. At the onset, the toxin presents with dark color and flat root, accompanied by hard, painful swelling. By the twenty-first day, if it ulcerates and discharges thick pus, it is a favorable course; absence of pus with black sinking is unfavorable. The sore is named Fengmian Du (Wind-Face Toxin). At the onset, the toxin is red, puffy, hot, and painful, and is easy to treat, typically ulcerating within seven days. However, if the color is black, numbness and pain prevail, excessive itching occurs, the root is hard like an iron nail, and chills and fever alternate, it is identified as Xinjian Ding (Heart Center Ding). All these are caused by wind-heat congestion and Qi stagnation in the Du Meridian. Both carbuncle and sore conditions should be managed according to the treatment for Baihui Ju. The treatment for Xinjian Ding is the same as that for Ding carbuncles.

[Prescription Verse] Longquan Ju (Dragon Spring Carbuncle) arises at the Renzhong point. Symptoms include numbness, itching, hardness, and pain, with a shape resembling a red bean. Upper Jiao wind-heat attacks the Du Meridian; chills and high fever are treated similarly to Ding carbuncles.

[Annotation] This condition arises at the Shuigou point, i.e., Renzhong (GV26), belonging to the Du Meridian. It resembles a red bean, with a small surface manifestation but deep roots. It is hard, numb, and painful, with purple discoloration and a scorched apex. Chills and fever alternate, and there is intermittent numbness and itching. It is caused by upper Jiao wind-heat attacking the Du Meridian. It should be treated urgently according to the Ding chapter. Delay allows the toxin to attack internally, causing restlessness, nausea, dry heaving, mental confusion, and stupor, along with swelling of the cheeks and neck, often leading to death.
