[Formula Song] Ya Zhang Hou Feng (Mute Miasma Throat Wind) presents with swelling and pain in the throat, urgency of the jaw joints preventing speech. Wind-phlegm surges and obstructs above the pharynx and diaphragm; excessive fire generates phlegm, which combats with wind as the source.
[Note] This condition is quite similar to Jin Hou (Tight Throat). It arises from heat accumulating in the Lung and Stomach, generating phlegm over time. Subsequently, external wind pathogen invades and combats with the phlegm-heat, surging and obstructing above the pharynx and diaphragm, resulting in this disease. In the initial stage, there is swelling and obstruction of the throat with pain, difficulty swallowing soup or water, inability to speak, and urgency of the jaw joints. This belongs to a dangerous syndrome. Urgently use Xionghuang Jiedu Wan (Realgar Detoxifying Pill), dissolve it in water, and blow the medicinal liquid into the nostrils using a fine bamboo tube, reaching directly to the throat. Once the medicine enters and induces vomiting, instruct the patient to vomit. The jaw joints will instantly relax, and the throat will slightly open. First, give rice drink to sip, then administer Qingyan Lige Tang (Throat-Clearing and Diaphragm-Relieving Decoction), while simultaneously blowing Bingpeng San (Ice and Borax Powder). If medication fails, the condition is critical. If lips turn black and cold runny nose flows, it is an adverse prognosis.
Another prescription: Xionghuang Jiedu Wan, Qingyan Lige Tang (both see Jin Hou Feng section); Bingpeng San (see Mouth Section - Oral Candidiasis).
[Formula Song] Nong She Hou Feng (Playing Tongue Throat Wind) involves the Heart and Spleen meridians, formed by stagnation of excess fire and external cold. The tongue protrudes and moves due to distension and stuffiness; the throat hurts and suffers more pain.
[Note] This condition results from excess fire in the Heart and Spleen combined with external cold causing depression and stagnation. Symptoms include swelling and pain in the throat, increased phlegm and saliva causing obstruction, hoarseness and slurred speech, the tongue protruding without retracting, constantly moving, feeling distended and stuffy, often desiring to touch it with hand, hence named "Playing Tongue." Urgently prick Shaoshang (LU11) acupoint, located on the medial side of both thumbs, about the width of a leek leaf away from the corner of the nail. Use a three-edged needle to prick it; if blood appears, survival is likely; if no blood, death ensues. Hold Chan Su Wan (Toad Venom Pill) in the mouth and slowly swallow the medicinal juice. If phlegm and saliva surge upward making swallowing impossible, urgently use Tong You Qian (Camellia Oil Coin) to induce vomiting to expel phlegm and saliva, then take Qingyan Lige Tang, and blow Jin Suo Chi (Golden Key) powder. If the inside of the throat shows changes resembling pine nuts or fish scales without blockage, this belongs to floating deficient Yang. Urgently hold Mi Zhi Fu Zi Pian (Honey-fried Aconite Slice) in the mouth and swallow its juice for immediate effect.
Formula: Jin Suo Chi
Composition: Bingpian (Borneol, 2.5 fen), Bai Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 1 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar, 2 qian), Yan Xiao (Saltpeter/Niter, 1.5 liang), Pengsha (Borax, 5 qian).
Grind each into powder, mix uniformly, and blow into the swollen and painful areas inside the throat using a fine brush tube.
