[Prescription Song] Cheilosis (inflammation of the lips) often occurs on the lower lip, caused by wind-fire pathogens attacking the Yangming Stomach Meridian. Initially, it presents with itching, redness, and swelling; if prolonged, it leads to cracking, oozing fluid, and pain as severe as a burning sensation.
[Annotation] This condition mostly affects the lower lip, resulting from the coagulation of wind-fire pathogens in the Yangming Stomach Meridian. Initially, there is itching, redness, and swelling. Over time, the skin cracks and exudes fluid, causing pain akin to burning, appearing as if the skin is missing. If wind pathogens are predominant, the lips may twitch or tremble frequently. Internally, administer Shuangjie Tongsheng San (Double-Resolving Holy Guardian Powder), which has effects of resolving both exterior and interior pathogens. Externally, apply Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment). The condition will heal spontaneously.
Formula: Shuangjie Tongsheng San (Double-Resolving Holy Guardian Powder)
Composition: Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, stir-fried with wine), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum, heart removed), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried with soil), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus) — each 5 qian; Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, calcined); Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) — each 1 liang; Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw, 2 liang); Huashi (Talcum, 3 liang).
Grind all ingredients into coarse powder. For each dose, use 5 qian, add 1.5 zhong of water, decoct until 0.8 zhong remains. Clarify the dregs and take warm.
[Prescription Song] Shuangjie Tongsheng San addresses stomach fire and wind, dispersing the exterior and clearing the interior. It contains Fangfeng, Jingjie, Danggui, Baishao, Lianqiao, Huangqin, Baizhu, Jiegeng, Mahuang, Zhizi, Gancao, Bohe, Huashi, and Chuanxiong.
Another Formula: Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment) (See "Nasal Section" for Nasal Sores).
[Prescription Song] Ya Nu (Dental Epistaxis/Gingival Bleeding) refers to bleeding within the gum margins, involving deficiency-excess heat patterns of the Stomach and Kidney meridians. Excess patterns typically present with halitosis and firm teeth; deficiency patterns present oppositely and should be differentiated.
[Annotation] This condition arises from heat pathogens. Differentiation between excess and deficiency is essential. Whether in adults or children, if it is an excess heat pattern of the Stomach Meridian, blood flows out like a gushing spring, accompanied by bad breath and stable teeth. Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction) is appropriate. For severe cases, Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulating the Stomach and Directing Downward Decoction) may be used, or 3 qian of Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, processed with wine) powdered, mixed with a decoction of Zhiqiao (Aurantii Fructus, 5 qian) and a small amount of Tongbian (Child's Urine), taken orally. Healing occurs upon the passage of black stool. If it is a deficiency fire pattern of the Stomach Meridian, the gums rot, and pale blood seeps continuously. Ershen Tang (Two Shen Decoction) and Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) should be administered, added with Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) and Danpi (Moutan Cortex). If it is a deficiency pattern of the Kidney Meridian, blood drips out drop by drop, teeth ache slightly, there is no bad breath, but teeth are loose or even fall out. Treatment should nourish the Kidney Yin. If there is fire, Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used; if there is no significant fire, Qiwei Dihuang Wan (Seven-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) is used. Both formulas should be added with Houjiang (Drynariae Rhizoma). Efficacy is usually immediate. If accompanied by excessive accumulation qi due to pinworms/accumulation, Lushui Wan (Aloe Pill) should be taken concurrently. Externally, Xiaoji San (Small Thistle Powder) should be applied to the teeth. Subsequently, Qingzhuru (Bamboo Sap from Green Bamboo) soaked in vinegar overnight should be held in the mouth and rinsed, which is very effective.
Formula: Qingwei Tang (Stomach-Clearing Decoction)
Composition: Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, calcined, 4 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata) — each 1 qian; Danpi (Moutan Cortex, 1.5 qian); Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) — each 1 qian.
Add 2 zhong of water, decoct until 0.8 zhong remains. Take after meals.
[Prescription Song] Qingwei Tang treats Yangming Stomach excess fire accumulation, accompanied by halitosis and dental bleeding. It contains Huangqin, Huanglian, Shengdi, Shengma, Shigao, and Danpi. Decocting them together yields rapid efficacy.
Another Formula: Tiaowei Chengqi Tang (Regulating the Stomach and Directing Downward Decoction)
Composition: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, soaked in wine, 4 qian), Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 qian); Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, 2 qian).
Add 3 zhong of water, decoct until 1 zhong remains. Remove dregs and take warm in small amounts.
[Prescription Song] Tiaowei Chengqi Tang attacks excess fire, effective for dental bleeding and halitosis. It contains wine-soaked Dahuang, Mangxiao, and Gancao, quickly clearing stomach heat when decocted and taken.
Another Formula: Ershen Tang (Two Shen Decoction)
Composition: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix) — equal parts.
Decoct in water and take warm.
[Prescription Song] Ershen Tang treats floating deficiency fire, presenting with rotting gums and pale bloody discharge. Equal parts of Renshen and Yuanshen are decocted in water, yielding miraculous results.
Another Formula: Lushui Wan (Aloe Pill)
Composition: Lushui (Aloe), Zi Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Baireiwan (Wormseeds), Baiwuyi (Chrysanthemi Indici Flos), Chuan Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Hu Huanglian (Picrorhizae Rhizoma), Heshicao (Dawsoniae Root) — each 1 liang; Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 3 qian); Shexiang (Moschus, 1 qian).
Grind into fine powder. Use steamed bread paste to form pills the size of hemp seeds. Take 1 qian per dose, swallowed with clear rice soup on an empty stomach.
[Prescription Song] Lushui Wan treats excessive accumulation qi. It contains Muxiang, Shexiang, Qingpi, Hu Huanglian, Wuyi, Leiwann, Heshicao, and Chuan Huanglian, formed into pills with steamed bread.
Another Formula: Xiaoji San (Small Thistle Powder)
Composition: Xiaoji (Cirsii Herba), Baicaoshuang (Carbonized Rice Husk), Puhuang (Typhae Pollen, lightly stir-fried), Xiangfuzi (Cyperi Rhizoma, soaked in vinegar and sun-dried).
Grind all into fine powder. Apply to the teeth. After a short while, rinse with warm tea.
[Prescription Song] Xiaoji San is a formula for applying to teeth to stop bleeding. It contains lightly stir-fried Puhuang and Baicaoshuang. Xiangfuzi is ground together into fine powder. Applying it to the teeth strongly stops bleeding.
Another Formula: Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) (See "Ulcer Section").
Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) (See "Facial Freckles Section").
Qiwei Dihuang Wan (Seven-Ingredient Pill with Rehmannia) (This is Guifu Dihuang Wan minus Fuzi. See "Facial Cheek Ulcers Section").
